View Full Version : SKS Scope Mounting

Hi there from Beautiful British Columbia Canada. I have been looking at scope mounting options for my Tula Soviet SKS carbine. I have had this gun years before the current imports of Russian and Chicom Military weapons flooded in. Wow I bought a Military Chinese Sks for $135 out the door from Lever Arms a few years back. Even now Marstar has them for $175 or so. Anyways I was checking out some side rail mounts at Kalinka Optics website. Seems like a more solid mount to keep zeroed in rather than the top cover replacement mounts so often seen. They have a couple of options to use one rail mount with rings or the rail mount that I would like to try out. Lots of spare parts and stock sets around too to use to modify so the mount can be done. Would like to mount a 4X24 PSP or POSP scope. Any ideas or feedback for a solid mount that maintains zero would be appreciated. Kind regards.

I would go with this in order to preserve my ability to use stripper clips, which I always use when shooting the SKS. Also it is installed without drilling or tapping. Looks like no real modification needed. Also it comes from a site sponsor. :)

Hi there. Thanks for the response. Looks good. I have an Aimpoint 1 moa red dot that would suit that mount perfectly. Thanks again.

I Scout mount is a nice mount and should be rock solid. I use one of those file to fit receiver cover mounts on my Chinese SKS along with a 40 MM 3 MOA red dot sight but only use it for hunting season, the rest of the time I use the irons.
On my Yugo M59/66A1 I chose to go with the Choate drill and tap mount and compact scope. I've run that rig for about seven years now and along with my hand loads it shoots just as accurate as any other rifle I own.

Another option that uses the railed reciever cover but makes it a bit more likely to hold zero. Get a railed reciever cover and get it to fit right. Remove the reciever cover latch and run a 1/4 twenty tap through with the reciever cover in place. Replace folding reciever cover latch with a 1/4 twenty allen head bolt cut to length and blue the end of the bolt after cutting. I have not performed the modification yet myself but I here it holds zero great.

In my case I use one of the railed receiver covers. It fit extremely tight without filing at all and is rock solid. The scope is a 4x32 and holds zero.
But the gun is really not set up stock to receiver-wise for proper use of a scope. No cheek to stock weld here! So the scope went away.
But the rail, with it's see through groove, really helps getting the iron sights into my sight picture, so I left it on. Looks a bit funny, but it works for me.
Eventually I'll go with one of the peep/aperture sights available for the SKS.
