Several vears ago I obtained a Russian Makarov made in 1986. At the time I also had a DDR piece. The quality of the Soviet arm equaled the E. German one in every way. The gun was a gem and fit and finish very much outclassed the commercial ones later imported. Unfortunatly I believe few people have had the oppertunity to see a genuine military issue piece.

those of us lucky enough to own them, will probably never sell them either :) short of some type of financial disaster...and even then would probably sell something else. :)

I have 2 one is in excellent like new condition, and the other I lucked out and found at a gun show, that was advertised as bulgarian....it was a mis-labeled one that century imported from bulgaria.....not the prettiest, has some pitting on the slide, but it's the one I always shoot.

My brother and I bought both the Russian military and the East German Makarovs a few years ago. As mentioned, the fit and finish are much better than the commerical versions.
For some ungodly reason, he wants to sell both of his. If I had the extra funds avail., I would snatch them up. Can't talk him out of selling them.

Wasn't there an EG Mak for sale on the board for $380 or something, and came with a whole boat load of mags?
Anyways, here is my pride, a '77 Pistolet Makarova, unfired,
and no import marks, with it's big comrade in the background.
Sorry about the Tokarev TT-33 holster, I will be getting a real
one from Mr. Makarov himself this summer, and hopefully shooting
a PM side by side with him!!!

Cannon PowerShot G1... 3.3Mpix
Desantnik got the G2 (even better) and now they have the G3.
Just about all the newer $500+ cameras are just as good, I just
happen to really like Cannon products. With all these cameras
now having 4.0+ Mpix, a built in preview screen, and manual controls, you just about cannot take a bad picture. Turn the flash off, use the lowest ISO you can (Cannon is excellent @50 ISO relative) feed in alot of natural light, or combination of light (this pic was incandecent along with a 6500K flourescent reference light), adjust your apeture and shutter, use a tripod whenever possible to allow longer shutter times, and click away using the infra red remote control for the shutter!!! Warnings about the G1
in particular, it doesn't like overly saturated reds (turns em pink due to the ccd being railed), there is some chromatic abberations,
the lens is slightly wide angle at it's full zoom out, so beware of some geometric distortion (but well worth the feature of wide angle), and it's boot up time is slow. It even handles the 1 Gig and 500 Mb IBM microdrives, as well as the standard Compact flash cards. I paid $850 for the G1 when it first came out, but even the newest G3 is probably in the $600 range....
More info than you wanted? Sorry!
