Ok folks? I here a lot about anti gun states such as California (home of the modern inquizition). Lets here a soundoff of those gun friendly states? States where the constitution still means something!. I know PA isnt to bad, can walk out with that shiny NIB ak the same day I walk into the store.

The right to keep and bear arms is protected in Idaho's State Constitution. I researched that before moving here 12 years ago from Kalifornia. BTW, we're also a CCW state... ;-) Tomac

Jimbob+, I know this wasn't your question, but does anyone out there know which state is worse, the People's Democratic Republic of California or the Communist Republic of Maryland? Just curious.

Jimbob+, I never seriously considered leaving California. It's a hell of a great state. We've got a wonderful climate, fresh produce, lots to do and pretty girls to do it with. There are things here no other state can come close to matching. But I can't help feeling that once I get done with the construction of the new half of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Brige, maybe 2007 or 2008, I may be out of here. I can't take it anymore.

I know I should stay and FIGHT, but even the founding fathers knew when it was time to leave and start over.

Up here in Montana things aren't too bad. Plenty of ranges and open space to go shooting too. Great hunting in the fall too. It's just that the economy up here sucks and we have some of the highest state taxes in the nation (we received a D- by a group that evaluates overall state taxes, that tied us for last place with New York, Vermont and Minnesota). No waiting on rifles. We have the insti-check on handguns and getting a concealed carry permit is pretty easy and cheap. I've got to say hats off to New Hampshire though, last I checked it is legal to carry concealed there without a permit. That's the way it should be!

Nevada is a great state for gun owners.
Two minute instant check, CCW is availible for anyone to apply for and you can carry in your car or truck concealed or out in the open.
Also Nevada is a Class II and a Class III state.

Florid aint too bad, and it has some of the same benifits as The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. We have fine ladies AND CCP's! Only bad thing is lack of ranges.

Heya. Georgia has an intensive CCW background check but is a must issue state. Takes 60 days to get your permit. No restrictive gunlaws outside of Federal laws. You can own any gun you want provided it's Federally legal. No limit on the number of guns or amount of ammo you may own. Cities and counties are forbidden by law to pass gun-control legislation. Gun makers cannot be sued and some are now looking to relocate their operations in GA. Glock's HQ is near Atlanta. Cities and counties can't sue gun makers or ammo makers. Jobs are plentiful, cost of living is cheap without being deprived of most modern civic services and facilities. Land is relatively cheap to buy, we don't nickle-and-dime you to death with fees and taxes. Gas here is under a buck a gallon. It's a green state, warm in the summers with modest weather, some risk of hurricanes on the coastal areas and some risk of tornadoes during the summer. We have everything from beaches to mountains, modern urbania and rustic open rural areas. Gunshows are frequent and decent sized and decently attended. Your car is legally part of your home so you don't need a CCW to have a loaded gun in your glove compartment. Lots of public and private shooting ranges. Gunstores down here look like Walmart-for-Guns at times, we have some big ones. Firearms generally aren't feared here. The liberals stay in the cities and I am quick to remind them when they get uppity with me that they are surrounded by the people they look down on and are outnumbered and a long way from friendly territory. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

Arizona is nice (but hot in summer). There aren't too many ranges, but plenty of open land to hunt and fish. The gunshows are about every 2 months here in summertime, and we have 'shall issue' CCW. Lots of gun stores, since the laws are fairly open, and we're realistic about carrying - if you can identify it as a firearm, it's not concealed.

Vehicular carry is common-sense, and open carry is common-place. It's encouraging to see so many other gunners when you get gas or go grocery shopping!

Hey Florida is getting much better. With a new GOP Gov. and GOP controlled Legislature, things are looking positive.(knock on my wood butthole stock) Although some of the commie libs in Miami, Tampa, Jax, St Pete, are joing the lawsuit against firearm manufacturers, there was BIG talk this Legislative session about supporting the NRA sponsored bill, prohbiting those back biters from suing. JEB Bush said he would sign, so hopefully when they reconvene later this year, it can get passed. We also have a pretty good CCW here. Of course the Women are great as well.

Hello every body.Tinman99 did not mention the historic little city of Kennesaw, citzens must own a firearm. It's the law.

Forgot to mention since this law came into effect in 1984 there's only been one murder in city limits, the barber was stabbed.

I had no clue the law was still in effect requiring every household to have at least one gun. I recall that home burglaries dropped by 70% the year after that law was passed.

I always cite this in discussions about gun-control but liberals don't listen. They are too busy shouting me down to listen to any facts that contradict their pre-conceived opinions.

Ky. is a pretty good state for gun owners.
The right to bear arms is in our state constitution,we have ccw laws and pre emption laws keeping the local goverments in check. It doesnt hurt to have Knob Creek nearby either.

There is a state in the NE. It is New Hamp. or Vermont. I think that state's law is is that if you are a legal cit. in good standing you can automatically carry without applying.

Tenn. isn't too bad either. We have shall issue and concealed carry laws on the books.
We can own class 2,3 weapons also, very easy to get the signature of the cleo. We have alot of hunters in the area also.

Vermont is the friendliest gun state, no CCW permit needed, no restriction on class III weapons, the state has made it illegal for a municipality to pass any ordinance that restricts the 16th article of the state constitution (Right to keep and bear arms
in defense of themselves and the state)

New Hampshire is almost as good, it's a shall issue state, $25 permit fee for CCW.

I'm currently going to grad school in NC now but have spent my entire life in AL. Living on the Chattahoochee River bordering GA, I can agree with Tinman99 that GA is a gun friendly state and so is Alabama. I bought my Colt Sporter and 1000 rounds at a GA gun show and walked out the same day, same with my AK. A concealed carry permit in AL is only $15 bucks for the whole year and as long as you're not a felon there is no problem. NC on the other hand wants you to pay about $90 for the permit and attend some one day class. I don't mind attending the class if I didn't have to pay over $100 bucks for it-not including the license. I'll continue to keep a pea shooter in the glove compartment when I'm traveling regardless of a permit. After all, It is my constitutional RIGHT! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

It might in fact be your constitutional right to bear arms, but if you roll into a state where you can't have a loaded gun in your glove compartment without a permit, you're gonna be eating the hood of your car while they cuff you. If youre that interested in carrying a firearm in your state, take the course when it's convenient, pay your fee, get your permit. You'll feel real stupid explaining to your spouse or parents to come bail you out and wind up losing one of your guns to boot. Either that or relocate to a more congenial-lawed state... like GA. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/wink.gif

Don't worry Tinman99...Most of the traveling I was talking about is thru GA. I live right on the NC/GA state line and because my wife's and my family are from the GA/AL neck of the woods we're usually traveling on the weekend back home. We'll most likely be moving back to the area after my SENTENCE http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif in graduate school is up. Besides I'll take my chances with the cops, what I worry about is breaking down in Atlanta.

I go to Atlanta all the time, almost every other weekend. I go through some of the more surley areas of Fivepoints and the industrial west-end. I keep a loaded Ruger KP944 .40S&W in my glove compartment and a Tomcat .32 in my pocket. I haven't had cause to even display them so far, knock-on-wood. Anyway, hope you make it back to GA soon. Take care till then.

Where I live you can't get a permit yet three of my buddies have been shot and two of them are dead. Hell I even got a felony charge for carrying a pocket knife when I was a teenager, the cops said what do you need this for, I said the same reason we need you for. The fact that the rich congressmen can tell me I have no right to defend myself is a shame, they all live in those neighborhoods with guards at the gates, what do they know about us!

Arizona is probably one of the Top Five best States to be a Gunowner in.

We have CCW, you take an extensive course on the legal implications and a lot of live-fire action as well. It is around a hundred dollars for the course and permit, but I think it is worth it, personally. After that, it is cheap to renew it.

There are a lot of people in Northern AZ with old anti-aircraft machine guns mounted in the backs of pickups and my favorite gun store has a literal arsenal of hundreds of full-auto guns. We are a Class EVERYTHING State.

Southern AZ is home to some hard-core Militias, apparently good old Michael Fourtier was from a North AZ Militia. (You know, Oklahoma City bombing assistant?)

People open carry here a lot, even in downtown Phoenix. There is also a law that, if you don't like somebody carrying in your establishment, you have to provide a locked place to store it, you are responsible for protecting it, and you must issue a receipt. I love that law. Dumbfounds the people who try to harrass me about open carrying when I have occassion to.

My boss specifically requested I work the night of December 31st 'cause they know I'll be bringing an arsenal with me! LOL

Yep, I love AZ. You should at least come to one of our Gunshows (at least one every other month, often one a month) sometime: They are huge, hugely attended, fun and safe for the whole family. Like a carnival with more lead...

Try Texas, this country's most heavily armed state. If you want it I cant stop you from coming, but I will make sure you limp on your way out.

PS If Travis, Crockett, and Bowie had AK's the Mexicans would be the ones remembering the Alamo!

PPS. Gun shows are considered family events

I recently moved to Florida from Alabama and was shocked to find that I had to submit proof of training, fingerprints, $117.00, and a photo. The application has to be notorized. This is an "infringment" If I ever saw one. Shame on you Jeb Bush!

I agree that Vermont is one of the most friendly gun states. I live in Maine which isn't too bad - getting more liberal by the day though. New Hampshire is good too. My state hosts the Northeast Military Firearms Shoot & Expo. every year ( a smaller version of Knob Creek) and the Small Arms Review is published here. We're also home of Bushmaster, a bunch of Class III and II dealers/manufacturers, and SACO Defense( maker of the M-60, MK-19, and some other guns for the military). The Hiram Maxim Historical Society is based here as well - a pro-gun group dedicated to preserving the RKBA for all gun owners - esp. owners of Class III, Class II, and semi-auto "assault weapons". I personally feel that the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts is the worst offender up here as far as anti-gun goes.

Arizona sounds pretty decent should I ever make a move west.

Vermont has to be the best.

The Commonwealth of Virginia is not bad with a "shall issue" CWP law.

Pennsylvania is not bad either.

Any state other than New Jersey or California!

In NC it is $10 for fingerprinting, $80 for the permit (every four years) and you have to prove you had the CC class. Then you are at the mercy of the sheriff as to how he feels about CC.
To think, it is easier in my home state of PA! So much for the south being more gun friendly!

Florida lost some gun rights during the reign of "Lyin' Laughton" Chiles, our past governor. They also got some changed to the constitution because the media backed the recommendations of the (politically appointed) constitution reorganization committee. Hopefully JEB Bush will sign some repeals if they are submitted and passed. We are at the mercy of the "snowbirds" from NY / NJ who moved to Dade and Broward counties and want to bring their laws (and everything else) with them.

Inside joke: Miami is a bilingual city: Spanish and Yiddish. (And they aren't members of JPFO, either.)

Dave,
I know what you mean. I'm originally from Alabama, where it's $15 bucks a year and no stupid class. I moved (TEMPORARILY) to NC for graduate school. They want to charge to take the CC class too! Something like $90! You probably know just as much about firearms as the instructor. I'll let them keep their permit. I still carry one in the glove compartment when traveling. Be glad to get back to sweet home Alabama!

I went to Auburn for a while.
They didn't have a BS in Computer Science, so I had to finish at the University of South Alabama (1981).
I still cheer for the orange and blue (no, not Clemson!).

XM-177...I'm glad you liked Alabama. Most people snicker when I tell them where I'm from. Everyone thinks we're inbred rednecks. But if they take the time to visit they find it can be a really nice place.

Dave...I can't believe my Alma Mater didn't have a BS in Computer Science. They ought to be ashamed. I'm sure they do now but South Alabama is a good University. I applied there when looking for a graduate school but they did not offer me a slot until after I had accepted here in NC.

Florida: ***BEWARE*** Although it is easy to buy guns here, there is much illegal pressure to take them from you. Example. Your spouse reports that they were hit. Whether it happened or not, the courts will either force you to remove, or turn in your firearms, even go so far as to threaten you with reporting you to child abuse if need be. They also use the following way to strip you of your "Constitutional Rights" Someone in your family or someone living in your home commits a crime, they use this to strip you of your rights. This is a small sample of what I am researching. I have given a name to those who use the "Color of the Law" to strip away ones ""Constitutional Rights", they are called "Constitutional Terrorists", and they are the biggest threat to our National Security. If you have any examples from your State, please e-mail me with them. liberty1@magicnet.net
