SB 23 just passed and, as I understand it, is on its way to Gov. Davis (D) for signature. Under the new law, it will be illegal as of 1/1/00 to buy, sell, offer, give away, import or ship to California any "large capacity magazine" defined as any magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.
But wait, there's more.
A new definition of "Assault Weapon" is also included which adds to the previous list, any center-fire semi-auto rifle with a detachable magazine with any one of a number of additional features: pistol grip, thumbhole stock, flash suppressor, etc. In addition, any center-fire semi-auto rifle with a fixed magazine is also an "Assault Weapon" if its fixed magazine holds more than 10 rounds. The fixed magazine rifle does not require any of the other features (e.g. pistol grip etc.) to be labelled an "Assault Weapon". There are also rules for pistols, shotguns etc. making them "Assault Weapons," so it's worth reading the law itself.
If you own an "Assault Weapon" in California which was not required to be registered under the prior law, like a MAK-90 or SKS with fixed 20 round magazine, it must now be registered or you are committing a felony.

Oh, to add insult to injury, the law also bans buying, selling, offering, giving away, importing or shipping to California, dummy practice grenades and fake grenades. Gosh, I think those have been responsible for the deaths of thousands of people in California alone. Sorry for the bad news. Albert.

gosh, I thought NJ was the worst.... but good luck you guys in CA.
In NJ, the capacity of mags is limited under 10. Happy or not, it is the law. If cops see your hi-cap mags, they are allowed to take away your guns, cars and suit you. I guess for those who live in CA will learn to get used to all those 10 rounders.

Damn! That is one of the most oppressive laws I've heard in a while. You guys in CA are now worse off than those poor firearm enthusiasts in New Jersey and Hawaii. Kee-ripes! I guess if I were a CA resident and moving were an option, I'd start looking for someplace in Arizona or Texas or Georgia to relocate to. If anyone out there is looking to unload your high-cap's to avoid hassles in CA, either sell your mags at an out of state gunshow or gunshop. Don't let your precious mags fall into the hands of the state of Kalifornia. It's better someone that can enjoy them out-of-state and thumb your nose at the state than give some damn gun-grabber have the satisfaction of flattening your mag's into manhole covers. Get out while you can, guys! Pretty soon the iron curtan's going up. Not Kalifornia trying to keep the folks in, but the rest of the country wanting to avoid the contamination from creeping out. Heck, after a while, Kalifornia may build the wall to keep them in. Don't forget to take the Flag before you leave, what it stands for no longer applies in Kalifornia.

Hello Albert,
Sad day in Cali!
I was born in the Bay area and also lived in Monteray Park when it was a safer place. I now reside in Las Vegas and if you can handle the heat it is a very nice place to raise a family.
Remember that you are only five or so hours from Vegas if the need arises that you need mags and the such.
Take care and keep up the fight!
OUT in Vegas!

Under no circumstances do you turn in or register your guns. Store them away and keep them. I am tired of these politicians steppin all over our rights. It is sad to say but I think this country is headed for a civil war.

The simple act of legislatures making Post Facto laws turning law biding citizens into Felons with rifles they bought long before any of this legislation, i.e. California SKS buy back plan is simply fucking treason. It violates our Constitution in all aspects and it should be regaurded as an act of war. In the military you are sworn to uphold the Constitution against all enemies both foreign and domestic, anyone who violates this has declared war. It's pure and simple' will you turn in your rifles to the Nazi's or will you hide them and most of all will you fight if necessary regaurdless of consequences. This question I ask myself over and over. It makes me sad that we even have to ponder such questions with the hundreds of thousands who are laid to rest over the last two centuries fighting to uphold that precious piece of paper. We have the Second Amendment for a reason, so we will never end up in the hands of tyrrany again, and yet we have. Do we have the strength to fight against all odds such as our forefathers or will we sit idally by and watch OUR Nation crumble to the liberals and the government. What would Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson and all of the rest of our Patriots say if they saw what is happening now to this country, the biggest question is could you look them in them in the eye and tell them you watched but never did a thing to prevent it. The way I look at it we owe them something and I'll be damned if I stand by the wayside and and let the government take OUR Rights away. The Constitution is not some peice of paper that the Government can interpret for their purpose and defie all her principles, the Constition was guided by the book of the Lord, washed in the blood of patriots and is a symbol of all that America is and should be, Freedom.

We can get SB23 put to a vote if we get 420,000 signatures on the referendum.
This is doable! Please tell ten friends to tell ten friends!
