SB23 and M1A rifles ?

I was wondering if the new laws with SB23 in
Calif. would Ban the Springfield Armory M1A
rifle in .308 ? it takes mags over 10 rd. and
has flash suppressor & bayonet lug. no pistol
grip.

The bill is expected to be signed by Gov. Davis on Monday in some formal ceremony. It defines an "Assault Weapon" as "A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: ...(E) A flash suppressor." California Penal Code 12276.1 Note that the rifle does not have accept a "high capacity" magazine, only a "detachable" magazine and have one other feature listed to qualify. Based on the new definition, it would seem that your rifle will have to be registered to be legal in California. Sorry for the bad news. Albert.
