Can you believe this. My local gunstore is unwilling to order any new "assault weapons" for fear of not being able to sell them in the five months of time remaining before Kalifornia party decree 23 goes into effect. My point being this legislation is ALREADY affecting us.
Here's an idea for everyone to contemplate over the next four months, provided the referendem is unsuccessful.
If we could organize say 150,000 to 300,000 or more people to walk into their local police station on April 1st, 2000, and turn themselves in for refusal to register their rifles, we could flood the system WAY beyond it's ability to procecute. The media would have to cover such a wide-scale event, and it would show everyone firsthand what kind of people are being criminalized. It's one thing for average people to support sb23 when they believe the lies that it will disarm "criminals". But, when they see the stark reality that it only effects average, normal people just like themselves, and turns them into felons, it will be much harder to support. Not to mention that the state would be forced to choose between booking every single one of us, thus completely shuting down the criminal court system, or letting everyone go.
I know this is just a very rough idea, but we all know that similar civil disobedience has worked in the past, and it is certainly preferable to civil war. Of course all those involved would have to secure there weapons in a safe place during the event to prevent seizure.
Just thought i'd throw that out there for anyone more knowledgeable on this subject to comment on.
