Ordered one of these from SOG earlier this week. Got it today. Looks pretty nice overall. The leather portion of the scabbard is pretty grimy, but should clean up well. About 85% of the black paint remains on the end pieces with scratches here and there.

The bayonet looks real good. No nicks on the blade and the handles are unmarred. Lots of little proofmarks and what appears to be a date of 190?. The last digit is too faint and is overstruck with the numbers 35. Also has the letters SANDE?? on it. I'll have to dig through my secret decoder book tonight to figure out all the markings.

I'm happy with it and the price was tough to beat. :) My Enfield won't feel so defenseless now if I run out of ammo! ;)

RetVet, sounds like yours was made by Sanderson & Neubold. Yes there are marks all over these bayonets. You should also have a crown over "ER" (for King Edward VII).

Mine was made by Wilkinson Sword Company during the reign of George V.

The faint hard to read should be "7"
The 190 should be followed by 7 is the model number for the Bayonet. Which I believe is also the year.

Mine was manufactured by Chapman and bought with the rifle.

Here's a photo:

This one has the crown with GR

Yes, the model should be 1907 as bmwguy noted.

RetVet, if you want to know when your bayonet was made, take a look at bmwguy's last pic. See where there is a 10 then 1907 and then an 18? That's the date of manufacture for his bayonet, October 1918.

I've heard that some of these bayonets have matching serial number with the rifle. Where would this number be located?

Did they stop serializing the bayonet after certain year?

bmwguy, the original P1907 quillion bayonets may have had serial numbers, but our post-1913 No.1 P1907's don't. That would be interesting to find out, though. Do any of you guys here on the C&R board have a P1907 with the hooked quillion?

Incidentially, I have you both beat. Mine was made in February 1918! :p

Why did you have to beat me on the date??

Now I have to see if I can find an earlier one prior to February 1918!

Hi Guys...One Question???

Will Any Other Bayo Fit The SMLE Besides The Ones Described Above???

I'd Like To Fit A Bayo On It,Even If It's Not The Right One...Since My SMLE Was Made In 1963 (No Point Putting an Expensive And Older Bayo On A Rifle That Only Cost Me Under $100).

Any Ideas Or Suggestions???

A British P1943 or P1944 (last ditch) Enfield bayonet may suit your needs and would probably be more correct given the year of your rifle. IMA has them in EXC condition for around $25 (no scabbard). Might check Sarco as well.
