WTB my first AR . What would be a better choice , the Oly Plinker or the Dpms A-15 for $ 100 more. I have heard good things about Olympic but not much about Dpms. Thanx in advance Plinker.

If you want to stay around the $500 mark, the Plinker is the only game in town. I just bought one and it is a nice rifle, but... If you are after a more pure AR-15, I highly recommend a Bushmaster. Yes they are $200 more (many are available for $700), but you are buying a true mil-spec rifle. As you can guess, I have a Bushmaster as well, and it is great, but I have to admit that the Oly feels almost like every other AR that I have shouldered. The biggest difference is the receiver. The Plinker is cast and has a slightly different feel. It also has a non-chrome-lined barrel and according to some should be more accurate. Haven't had a chance to try the Oly yet because of our wonderful weather (global warming my @#@), but my Bushy is a tack driver.

As for the DPMS, I do not have any experience with them, but for what it's worth, my FFL has reported that she has had to return a few of them for repairs. She will not tell me what was wrong though, but I suspect that there are returnable ones made by everyone.

Sorry for getting so wordy.

I have not had the pleasure to shoot either one, however if those were my choices I would get the dpms. Remember you get what you pay for.

I have a DPMS, Bushmaster and a Armalite. All three are about the same quality. Actually the finish on the DPMS maybe a little better than the others, it's quite nice.

Get the DPMS, you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to spend the extra cash and go for the Bushmaster XM15-E2s. ( to show solidarity with Bushmaster also) The only bad thing is that my ffl called me today to inform me that AIM was out of them and that i will have to wait 2-3 weeks. Bummer!

After a 3 week wait i finally got my rifle(bushy 20" hbar). Cant wait to go and shoot it. It has a little play between upper and lower but hear it is normal. The buttstock texure and color is different than the handguard i guess that is normal also. An orlite mag i had did not go all the way in. A few minutes with a dremel fixed the problem. I will try some UMC 223 and see how it works.
