have it look like a Vepr, just leave the SVD barrel and receiver intact...at least you'd have somewhat of a parts source or you could build an SVD...

Are you talking about something like this (http://izhmash.udm.ru/arms/hunt.html) ?

All they have on that site are Tigers which have a shorter barrel than a SVD, don't think they can be brought into the US anyways...I'm saying make one that looks like a Vepr(so it can get into the US) just put a SVD barrel and SVD receiver on it

they do make a sporting version
it is called a TIGER.
Mr. Clintons agreement with Russia prohibits the import of this sporter.

what I'm saying is take a regular 308 vepr, switch the receiver with a SVD receiver and put the longer svd barrel on it..keep all the same stocks and shit that make it look like a vepr..why can't this be shipped into the US like the current vepr they have now?...then when it comes into the US all ya have to do is dump the vepr stocks and put the SVD stocks on, stick a US made flash hider on it and you got yourself a Russian SVD...am I missing something here?

Hi Guys ,

RE the barrel from the SVD , the Tigr comes standard from Izhmash with the following length's for 7.62x54R ( 530mm), 308 (565mm) & 9.3x64 (565mm) , on special order the rifle's are available with long SVD type length barrel ie ( 620mm).

However the rifling profile is different and there is a circular groove in the chamber to make the case's as different from Mil SVD. The rifling twist is also different , the SVD has a 240mm and the Tigr has a 320mm twist . This came in to force in 1995 in Russia , and is a anti-criminal feature , and you will not be able to get a new Tigr with out these feature's.

As a matter of interest I can tell you I have a current production version Tigr 7.62x54R with the long 620mm barrel and it also has the adjustable gas regulator , it is the all plastic current thumbhole stock version.

It was made in 2002,

Chris, If I understand you correctly,my 1993 tigr would have the 240mm twist? If I was to order a new 620mm barrel, would it have the 240mm twist? I know right now we can not order parts for the tigr, but maybe someone in New Zealand can?

Hi Mate ,

I do not like your chance's , 1st the Russian's wil not sell what they class as Mil part's , ie the vented wooden handguard's , barrel's etc for the SVD at all.
When I was in Izhversk I tired to get the SV-98 stock and brake etc seperately so I could re-configure a Record CISM rifle into a SV-98 , as they (Russian's ) cannot sell the Mil calssed SV-98 to any one.
I was told if I wanted one I had to deal with Rosvoorouzhenie, the Russian armament state corp , the Gov't agency that tack's a nice profit onto the manufactorer's price.
I think it is illegal for them to sell so called Mil classed product's such as the SV-98/99 , it does not matter that the rest of the world classe's them as bolt action target rifle's.

You are up against restriction's in your Country and Russia.

Every thing that is Mil goes thru Rosvo.

I believe that the Klinton/Russian Ban Agreement only allows specifically named weapons to be imported. There is no leeway or criteria as far as what can/cannot be brought in, just the firearms that are on the list are allowed in. This is why no more Dragunov, SKS, or SVT (Tokarev) rifles can be imported, or any Tokarev pistols either, for that matter. I am unsure of an "expiration date" on this Ban, but it has smelled rotten from day one!

By the way, the Russkies DID make a sporter Dragunov. It was called the Medved, which is Russian for Bear, had a hunter-style stock and a very short 5 or perhaps 3 round magazine.
