I live in upstate NY..just got 150 gallons of oil delivered for $190 which will last me about a month and a half(live alone and turn heat down to 50 at night and when I go to work)....If you live in the hotter climates, whats your cooling bill a month...In the summer its pretty cool up here so my bill for cooling is about 50 a month?..I'm curious to see if its cheaper to live in a hotter climate or a colder climate

I just went over mine last week. The total for the year averages out to a little less than $100 a month.

I pay 120 a month....but it is all electric rate, everything is run on electricity, water heater, furnace, heat pump. don't have to worry about carbon monoxide, cleaning the burners every year etc.. just have to have a tech come out and check the compressor once a year, and change the filter every 3 months.....very low maintenance. And best of all…..it is true 100 percent efficient, not 90, 80 etc…….for every dollar I spend on energy is goes into the house, and not up the chimney to warm the birds
I used a average of 1,647 KWHs per month, according to my latest bill that is from feb 02-jan03......higest KWH for the summer was 1,032KWH in jun 02 (it was a mild summer last year).
the higest this winter was 2,888KWHs in jan03 ......in the winter I set the thermostat at 78...and leave it there, I don't turn it down at night. in the summer I set it at 70 and leave it there...unless of course I get a little warm, and then I turn it down some more.
warm and toasty in the winter, and nice and cool in the summer. :)

Ours is about $230 a month in the winter(every thing runs of electrcity, the AC runs more then the heater here, the heater is always set to 69 and the AC always set to 72)
In the summer its about $300-400 a month....the AC doesnt stop running, even if you set it to 90 it will still run because its 105-112 out side...

Hey DaveN! You got a good deal at $190 for 150 gallons. I paid $1.499/gal here in southeastern MA on Friday 2/7. The delivery driver said it was going up again the next day. Our home heating and cooling costs seem to average about $150 month. We have a small, well insulated ranch style home.

My last month's gas bill (water heater, stove, and heater) was $44.00. But I normally keep it around 45-50. The electricity bill was $38.00, mostly the computer, frig and freezer. And washer/drier(two loads a week) Having a wood burning stove really helps on the heat!!

Cabin in the woods. $15-$20 a month in the summer. Open windows and a fan.
$90-$100 in the winter (dead winter).
Probably under $600 a year.
Frige, TV, Computer, security lights.

All electric about $280/month (on the budget plan)
Did I mention that heat pumps SUCK!?!?
Total electric, the cost is between 80-90 a month for >2400 sq ft..
I think it averages about $120 per month from November thru February to heat my house and my shop using natural gas. The other months it's a very small amount. It gets quite cold and windy here, but I'm a firm believer of heavy insulation in the walls and ceilings.
I don't care about air conditioning that much. I like the windows open and the breeze flowing thru and getting fresh air in the house. I have central air, but we turn it on only if it gets really hot, so my electric bill doesn't go up all that much in the summer.
I'm a believer in insulation also, plus lo-e glass, high efficiency heat pump and more..
My neighbors all pay a lot more. :D

My snazzy 1,000sqft bachelor pad is all electric. Winter power bill runs around $50, in the summer it is closer to $80.
