I know it's not an AK question, but...

Anyone have any info about the Poly-Tech M-14/M-1A receivers, especially in regards to reliability/durability? I was offered an M-1A with such a receiver for 800 smackers. It looks virtually new, and the stock is killer beautiful. Just wondering about the chinese receiver.... thanks in advance!

BTW, my pre-ban stamped Poly-Tech AK is a true pleasure to shoot....thanks to everyone on this forum for the info and encouragement.

The Chinese M-14s recievers are forged, and machined to milspecs. They're as close as you can get to the actual US GI M-14. All the rest of the parts an a Chinese rifle are of very questionable quality. If the reciever was rebulit using GI parts, it's one fantastic rifle. It just depends on how much is still Chinese as to whether it's worth $800. All Chinese guns are worth probably arund $500. To have a gun built right on a Chinese reciever, it would probably cost about $1100 total. Pretty close to a Springfield in price (though a Springfield is cast, it is well done). It could well be worth the 800 clams if it's done right. For more information, go to the Fulton Armory website. They have a Chinese M-14S FAQ.

Ross....
You're a lifesaver.... I'm going to Fulton Armory's page right now.

I read an article a while back about the chinese guns in an old issue of Gun Tests. I'll have to rummage through the den to look for it.

Do you have either a chinese M-1A or the Springfield version?

I have a Poly Tech M14S that I bought in 1994 for 399.. I put a TRW bolt and f/p in it, US Stock, hnd guards, flash supp.,rod, and other few things, in those days it all came out to maybe 550-600 range.. It works great, and I ve shot it quite a bit.. I have a Springfield Match M1A, and though it shoots better than the Poly, it has jammed a few times. Ive nvr had a jam of any knd w. the Poly, and I really am glad that I bought that rifle.. If u look around u can sometimes find them a bit cheaper than u stated...... good luck.

Thanks Louie for the info.

I decided to pass on that rifle for now.
I've instead fallen in love with a witty bitty IBM M1 carbine for a lot less than what I paid for my Poly AKS.

Yikes, love is a fickle thing. I've turned into a complete gun slut lately....going from one to the next and so on and so on, trying to satisfy some inner urge to feel and shoot every gun on the planet. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/wink.gif

Now, if we can get those Taiwanese to make M14s for us. After all, we sold them all the original tools and gauges to make it when we shut down our production facilities.

I paid $800.00 for my preban M1A back in 88 but now they are around $1200.00 for a post ban gun. I also bought good used M14 mags back then in very good used condition for 2-3 bucks a piece. Look at them now. Mercy, I wish I had bought 60 more than the 60 that I did buy.

spleenandideal, my uncles neighbor has a almost new IBM M1, only fired three times. It was issued new to him during the riots in the 60's here in my area. It looks absolutely perfect and I mean perfect, he is selling it to my uncle for $300.00 with ten mags and some ammo. Got to love that.

Sweet Deal! I paid 350 for my IBM and it isn't exactly Mint, but it came with 3 mags, a sling/oiler, buttstock mag pouch, 400 rounds of Winchester surplus ammo, and an OD canvas case.

Well, I brought another new friend home with me today.... an Ishapore Enfield 2A in 7.62NATO. Imported from Navy Arms. Since they were introduced I always wanted one! It's crammed full of cosmoline and is supposed to be unissued. Haven't had time to clean it out yet. It has by far the prettiest furniture that I've ever seen on a surplus Lee-Enfield.

happy shooting!
