I just bought a Pre-Ban Polytech AKS-762 serial number starts with PW85-762-***** Made in Beijing china imported from KFS in Atlanta. I would like to know what spare parts I should grab for this. I also have a Bushmaster AR-15 and I bought the field repair kit for that. Does anybody make a field repair kit for the AKS-762. Any info would be helpful since this is my first AK.

Check out www.TAPCO.com (http://www.TAPCO.com) for replacement parts such as bolt carriers, firing pins, extractors, springs. Last time I checked, they still had some China-com parts in stock. This is a priority, since Klinton has, by executive order, forbidden any chinese weapons or parts to come into the U.S. Some of the European parts fit, some don't. If you don't already have some of the more high-wear parts like firing pins, extractors, etc. I would advise you to acquire some as soon as possible.

Thanks for the info. I'll check them out. Do you know which european parts won't fit. I'm suprised they're not interchangeable.

Most of the small parts from the Euro guns will fit the Chinese rifles. However, there are some exceptions. I don't think that the hammer and trigger pins will swap out, not sure about the hammer and trigger themselves. A part that most people overlook when buying spares is the magazine catch and its associated pin and spring. These parts can and in most cases do last the life of the gun, but they are absolutely crucial to its function. Most guns fire thousands upon thousands of rounds with no breakages, but it's always good to have spares just in case.

Hello LAARS.

First, you really don't need any spare parts for your Poly but pick up a copy of Shotgun News and start looking for better deals than TAPCO offers.

TAPCO has one kit that you may want.
It is an Chinese 5 piece trigger group parts set. They are asking $49.00 for it. It used to contain nine parts but I think that they ran out of true Chinese parts.

There are ammo deals out there.

If you lived out west J&G Sales has Russian 7.62x39 in cases of 1000 for only $89.00 right now but since you live in NH you will save on shipping by finding it closer to your area.

Congrats on your new Pre-Ban, and it is a true Pre-Ban with your serial # starting with PW.

Take care, OUT in Vegas!

Thanks 56s. I figured some springs and a couple of firing pins would hopefully be enough. Its not like the chinese baby their weapons. I just wanted to make sure I have enough parts to last the life of the gun. Since this was my first Ak I figured you guys would know what if any parts you seem to go through. I'll grab a copy of shotgun news and look for some good deals. Thanks again,
LAARS

For the smaller parts (such as mag catches, springs, firing pin retainers, etc.) check out www.kvar.com (http://www.kvar.com) for some pretty good deals. Most of their parts are European, but the aforementioned parts should fit without trouble.

You don't need no stinking parts for an AK, just keep it clean and oiled and keep the gas system clean and it will last. Pick up extra 30 round mags and booko ammo and you are good to go...7th Fleet http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

No weapon is impervious to breaking parts, 7th fleet, especially an auto or semi-auto, no matter how robust the design happens to be. One of these days you may wish that you had bought a "stinking" firing pin to replace the one that just broke in your rifle!! Don't mean to flame you, but it is best to err on the side of caution.

All parts on a Chinese and Euro model will swap out evenly. I have used Romanian bolt carriers and the original bolt in combination with some romanian parts as a test for this and it works fine. The firing pin systems are different but all you really need is a spare bolt by itself. If your firing pin breaks it is far easier just to drop in a new bolt then to have to try and install a new pin, course that is only in the field- but that is where it actually matters.

Vott Giffs?? I bought an E. German AK bayonet that I thought would fit my Legend, but it seems too short to latch, missing by about a half an inch or so... Was there a difference in bayonet lengths??

Hey Bryant,
Thats great to hear that you can use other parts then the chinese ones. Is the ban only on chinese ak parts. Also I was wondering how often you guys have broken firing pins or if this is just something that could happen.

I have never heard of it OR seen it happen, LAARS, it is just a precaution.

I take that back. I was just in the gunstore the other day when a guy brought in a ROMAK with a broken hammer (it was broken where the disconnector catches the very upper lip of the hammer after firing). However, this was one of those lousy units with the single stack mags that have been popping up recently. Like any other mechanical system, AK parts are not failure-proof. I just added a spare hammer to my list of required spare parts!

How are those new weapons. I noticed they are only around $385. I thought I might grab one as a blinker gun.

LAARS, for $389 around here you can get a damn fine MAK-90 that will beat the pants off of any of those lousy ROMAK's. In western KY, the single-stack ROMAK's sell for about $245-275 in good condition.

Will the MAK-90 handle my 30 rounders. I know that I would have to get a parts kit to make it legal. If so that may be the way to go. Does the Mak-90 have that nasty trigger snap that some of the maadi's are known for?
Thanks
