Can someone give me a history lesson on the M90? When I first saw it I thought it looked like a great gun, but some of you seem dissappointed that it is a M90. What is wrong with the M90?

Thanks

An M90 is a post ban Yugo. There is nothing wrong with it -- in fact is it, for all practical purposes, the same as the prebans. $1400, what it was at when I looked, is a good price.

If you check the thread at the top of the Yugo, Galil, etc. heading, you can see how many of these were imported and that it's a pretty rare gun. Additionally, it has the wood stock, pistol grip, and night sights.

I'm thinking somewhere in the $1400 range would seem fair, considering Norinco and Poly (pre-ban) AK's sometimes fetch $1250. And yeah, the M90's are post bans but...

Some prices from a 1996 Shotgun News:

Standard M90 with t-hole stock and 30 round mag blocked to 5 rounds $499.95 (wholesale)

Standard M90 .308 w/ t-hole stock and 20 round mag blocked to 5 rounds $549.95 (wholesale)

M90 .308 RPK w/ t-hole stock and 20 round mag blocked to 5 rounds, hvy. finned bbl. and bipod $999.95 (wholesale)

For comparison sake, the same vendor was selling Hungarian SA 85m's for $249.95 (wholesale) and was the only dealer advertising Yugoslavian AK's. Prices on Norinco and Maadi post-bans ranged from $179-$250 (wholesale) --Even saw a Bulgarian SA 93 priced at $239 !

While the rifle in the ad is a post-ban, it's definitely a rare model---and in 7.62x39 would make it more desirable than the .308 (to me) due to mag availability. Probably safe to assume the rifle in question isn't 922 compliant though...

If you study the various old posts on the Galil, Valmet and Yugo forum, I think you'll find that ATF has allowed the wood buttstock and pistol grip on the M90, as well as the threaded barrel.

It's a $1500-1600 rifle, in my mind and, as you say, probably better in 7.62x39 due to the originality of the caliber for the gun, the availablilty and price of the ammo, and the availability of the mags.

There was a postban Maadi RPK on Sturmgewehr about a week ago with proper RPK wood and 992 compliant, new but with some box wear, for about $500.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Some of you may remember that I have a Maadi RPM which I was hoping to install a RPK bipod. Well, that presented enough of a problem that I started looking at other solutions. I'm now hoping to install a true RPK kit on my gun giving it a 23" heavy barrel and bipod. Now I have the problem of finding the necessary parts for this conversion :) The only kit I have seen on the market so far is SKSMan's and he has not replied to my email enquiry on the origin of his parts. I hope to find out as much as I can about RPKs in general so I will know what to look for and what to stay away from. It looks like these Yugo RPK's are nice pieces.

For what it's worth the bbl on a Yugo RPK is 540mm (21.6in) and most other RPKs have 591mm (23.6in) bbl.

mbakercad: I realize you are probably like the rest of us and can't wait but, if you can, why not hang loose for a few months and see what K-Var comes up with. It is possible that they may take all their RPK kits for the guns they/Arsenal is building or, maybe, they will sell kits again. Personally, I have the smith I use turning one of the shot out I/O kits into a 5.45x39 gun. Bought one of those trunions with a cut 5.45 barrel from K-Var and a 5.45 barrel blank. He's getting a reamer made and we should be ready to go.

Ken,
I spoke with someone from K-Var and they said they will have some RPK kits very soon. We are talking days not weeks. I will probably give them another call this week to get an update. Once I pay for the kit I will need to start shopping for a builder. I have emailed a few already, last one of which is the guy building yours. He said that he had just started on it. I would appreciate it if you would keep me informed with your build and how you like the finished product.

Thanks,

The M90 came with a certificate from the Batf. Atleast mine did when I bought it new. Through various moves since then I have missplaced it. I hope that doesnt matter I would think the BATF would have the serial #s of these guns some where. If I remember right these rifles got caught in customs and the only changes I see is they scratched out the original model and engraved (with a cheap electrical hand held one) M90. Mine is in the 7.62 x 39 and I think only around a 100 of these cleared with the certificate.

Hello, I'm new to the RPK board, usaully in the Dragunov board. I have a question.
I have a chance to buy a post ban NIB Yugo RPK M-90 .308 with 20rd mag, bi-pod, carrying handle, night sights, 3 pos gas, and manual for $1550.00. It has the teek wood butt stock and hand guards. Is that a good price for this gun?

Thanks
