I've recently picked up a used Polytech in a pawnshop and would like to find out if this is a true pre-ban model. It has 416 in triangle,PW85-762-08910, model AKS-762, CAL 7.62X39MM, SEMI-AUTO, Imported by KFS, Alanta Ga. POLYTECH BEJING CHINA.
It was missing the bayonet but I suspect the pawnshop owner pulled it off(he just happens to have a couple bayonets that will fit for $10.00). If this is a pre does this mean that there arn't restrictions on stock styles or barrel atachments? The wood was dark with oil\dirt with a few scratches and dings. Any idea what it's worth?

If I understand JA's serial number cart correctly, I believe it is a pre-ban. As for it's worth, does it have a milled or stamped receiver?

Stamped receiver.
Hello Popshot,
I just had a look at my Pre-ban Poly and it has the same markings as yours.
Congrats an your new Pre-ban Poly-Tech.
You can do anything you want to it ie; stocks and barrel attachments.
Have fun! OUT in Vegas.

Sounds like you may have a pre ban Polytech with a B-west reciever that is not worth the metal they are made out of, if it were a milled reciever I would be congratulating you, good luck any way.
Hello,
I do not think that it is a B-West gun.
I remember back in the late 80s that some of the Polys were shipped with their bayo's not attached and you had to mount them to the gun yourself. The original owner most likely never installed it and it did not follow the gun through changes of ownership.
All the B-West guns that I have seen have had B-West clearly marked on the gun. If I am wrong please correct me.
Take care, OUT in Vegas!

I've checked it over and don't find any markings that would point to a B-west reciever. I did have to buy a bayonet for it,wasn't on it at the pawn shop.

I also have a KFS pre-ban AK. I love mine, it has that orange colored furniture and a side folding stock. I know that mine is not a B square. If yours is anything like mine, you have a pretty good rifle.
I have fired a lot of ammo through it and had no failures. I used it to hunt with (5 rd mag) at the Eastern Shore of MD. where I bagged an eight pointer.
Good luck with yours . . .
