I found an AK-47 yesterday at a local shop and I needed some help researching it. All I know is that it is made by Polytech, is a 5.56 (from what I'm told), SN pw85-000593, and is in very good condition. The owner claims that it has never been fired, or if so only very little. It shows no outward signs of wear. What I'm wondering is if this is a pre or post ban AK-47. Also, what is a fair asking price for this? Oh ya, it also has the origional cleaning kit in the butt and comes with two 30 rd mags that are in excellent shape also. The guy wants $1400, is this a fair price? How are these particulat guns rate for collectors compared to the russian made AKs?

Better be a preban for $1400 dollars. Does sound like it but J.A. is much better with those things than I am. $1400 seems to be the tag price for exceptional condition 5.56 prebans and there is probably some flexibility in that (or there should be cash talks). I would pay that much just for a pistol grip or folding stock but if you have to have everything. Back to the subject polytechs are very nice guns probably one of the best prebans made especially the milled guns. Check for any markings such as "B west" these can be very very small and are on the reciever. The B west stamp on my SKS is hardly legible and only about 1mm tall. Avoid there AKs they have reciever problems. As for a comparison to a Russian? Really nothing compares in collectors value Russians are in a class by them selves incredibly rare compared to almost any other AK variant. Best of luck.

It sound like a preban to me. I would offer the guy $1000 if it has milled receiver. If a stamped receiver $800. This is best done by pulling out $100 bills and counting it in front of him. You know count them then make offer.
The only rub to this gun is it uses only polytech mags and they are rare, real hard find and exspencive. Last ones I saw advertised were $80 per 30rd mag.
