Hey Guys,
I have a National Match marked milled receiver gun. It has dark wood, a 20" barrel and a long (3-4") Krink on the end. NO bayonet lug, but then again, with a 20" barrel, that doesn't surprise me.
It is marked with the 386 and KFS. Also, it has a scope mounting wedge on it, but no mount or scope. I haven't shot it for accuracy yet, but the trigger is very nice for a combat style weapon.
My biggest questions are these:
1. Is this original, and how many are there?
2. Where could I get a suitable mount and scope?
3. I like it except for the 20" barrel and long flash. If I wanted to go to a 16" barrel, would this be too tough? Would it substantially affect future resale value? Of course, I'd keep the old parts.
Thanks

Hello Stokespump,

What does your rifle have stamped onto the receiver?

If it has AK47/S stamped on it then you may have an Poly-Tech Legend NM.

Let us know and I'm sure that someone here can ID it for you.

Take care, OUT in Vegas!

Here is everything on the receiver:
"386" in a circle
Serial number: "NM47-025XX"
NATIONAL MATCH
Model AK-47/S
Cal. 7.62S39MM
SEMI-AUTO
KFS
ATLANTA,GA

POLY TECH
BEIJING CHINA
Made in China

On the opposite side, there is only the F and S by the safety, and three vertical Chinese symbols. One last thing, the rear sight blade has a very narrow slot in it, and all parts have matching numbers.
Thanks for the imput.

Hello,

From the markings it looks like you have a keeper!

Your rifle is an Poly-Tech National Match Legend. A Pre-Ban of coarse.

The Krink on the end was most likely added by a second party. They came with either a slant brake or just a plain muzzle nut.

This is at the top of the Chinese collectors list but I cant' put a definate price on it but it would be well above the $1000.00 mark.

If it was my rifle I would not even think about cutting it down. I would leave it the way it is and go shopping for another AK with a sixteen inch barrel.

I hope this has helped?

Take care, OUT in Vegas!

Yes, this did help. I think I'm going to try harder to get rid of that ugly Norinco I have on the For Sale forum (it's way too short for me) and try to find a milled gun with a straight stock.
One other guy said that the gun should have a barrel nut, and no brake, so that's probably what I'm going to shoot for.
Thanks!!!

Hello again,

Nice to see that you are from the Evergreen State!

Before moving to Vegas I was living in Washington State in Richland Wa. and I was working on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

Have you ever thought of buying an short barreled AK? When I lived in Wa. you could own a SBR but not a class III machine gun.

Here in Nevada you can own anything you want, that is if you have a fat wallet.
They sell AKs here with 9, 10, 11 and 12 inch barrels for $850.00 plus the $200.00 tax stamp. You should see and hold these sweet little rifles! They are very nice.

Well, I am glad that I was able to help.
One more thing, the Legend series did come with either a muzzle nut or an slant brake.
The slant should be easy to find. Try www.TAPCO.com. (http://www.TAPCO.com.) The nut might be a little harder to locate but you will be able to find one.

Take care, OUT in Vegas!

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure what kind of mount I'll need, as it doesn't look the same as the bracket on my Romak.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to pursue it much, as I have had a sale fall though, and am in a bit of a bind. My true passion is for ARs, so I'm going to have to sell some other stuff to finance new projects. I have that Norinco on the For Sale board, but also have a Mak 90 and probably this gun to get rid of. I don't want to sell the bullpup yet, as a buddy of mine made me promise it to him. That's a sweet looking gun, and possibly the best Chinese AK around. Hell, if I had the kind of big money those bad boys go for I'd buy it! (That's even with my general aversion of anything from China. I don't like to support the Red Army. Still, THAT gun would be an exception. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

Anything less than an AK-47 is uncivilized!
