I sold my Polytech Post-ban to get one of these SlR-95's. Everybody said the SLR is the best and most accurate. Well I will tell you differently. The SLR is nice in many ways but is not near the quality of the Post-Ban Polytech. First compare the finnish, the polytech is all blued not painted like the SLR, the Polytech almost looks purple it's so rich and the SLR just scratches off with any abrasive contact. Next look at the barrel, the SLR has a thin- very thin barrel which heats up very quickly, compared to the Polytech barrel which is a heavy grade machine gun barrel with cooling fins. Then look at the reciever, sure the SLR is milled but the Polytech Post ban stamped is at least 1.5 times as thick than any Euro. stamped models and weighs alot less than the SLR. Finally where it really counts is accuracy, the Polytech is far more accurate than the SLR but just slightly more heavy in the front end. My judgement would be to put the Polytech Post ban above all other Post ban AK's.

Bryant,
I was a little disappointed with the accuracy of my SA-93 since I payed good money for it. It can put several shots close together but always has at least one wild flyer. And that flyer is *wild* too, several inches away from the rest. It could be me, I don't know... I wasn't too impressed by a Polytech Legend I saw, though (compared to my rifle). I did not get an opportunity to try it out though. >geeh, I wonder why?< http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/wink.gif
If you have a more detailed critism (not much left to say but I'd still be interested) e-mail me... Or post here...

Usually flyers like that are ammo related, not barrel related. As for the Polytech Legend, what didn't you like? Mine is perfect. It's the best AK I have.

It's not that I didn't like it, I just didn't think it looked (or was put together) any better than the Bulgarian gun I'd seen. Couldn't imagine shelling out quite a bit extra for one (unless you're a serious collector)... Oh, and the bayo was duller than a butter knife! Yeah, I know, the bayonet has no reflection on the gun, I was just very turned off by it (I love quality knives, hate bad ones).

I just purchased a Poly Tech a few weeks ago and couldn't be happpier. I had a new romak for a few months but decided to get rid of it and get a real ak that would except hi-cap mags. I ended purchasing the Poly Tech sight unseen, new in the box, over the internet from a dealer that has a link from this site. When the rifle came in I couldn't believe how perfect it was. It's a post ban AKS 762 with the Choate stock. The rifle seems to be made better than ANY of the AK's I've seen at gun shows or shops, and I love the blued finish over the painted or parkerized finishes. I paid $540 for the rifle and think it was worth every penny, even if I did pay a little more than other people might.

That's what I had the Polytech Post Ban sporter with the Chaote Dragonov stock. I am thinking of selling one of my guns to get a new one of the Polytechs. winning24, who did you purchase yours from I might want to pick one up. Destroyer, I have the same problem with my SLR, wild one's totally off target. Never had that with the Polytech and in fact I know it was not ammo related because my uncle went with me and brought his Polytech and I had my new SLR, we both used the same ammo and I kept getting that kind of result. I may have to take it out one more time just to be sure but unmistakingly the Polytech is far superior. I may just unload my SLR and go and get another Polytech, they are the best Post Ban AK's on the market- far better than any of the Bulgarians or other chinese.

I bought my Poly Tech through Urban Armory (urban-armory.com). The man that helped me was Ed Holts. He didn't have the Poly Techs in his posession but had a contact in Indiana. As of about 2-1/2 weeks ago the guy had 2 mor Poly Techs n.i.b. in stock for $540 not including shipping. Like I said before, I am very happy with the rifle he sent me. The only complaint I could come up with is that somebody went a little over board in welding the barrel nut that is hiding the threads for a muzzle brake, it's going to be fun getting it off. Overall though, the gun is pratically perfect with a beautiful blued finish and silver color bolt assembly, and the sights aren't cantered at all.

Damn, I may just have to buy a Chinese gun after all... If I can stomach the thought of supporting the Red Army (Yuck!). >Sigh<

Hey FNG, I think your better off with the Chaote simply because it makes it so accurate like you know. Pistol grip stocks are cute but when accuracy counts give me a Dragonav. Look at all the Russian sniper weapons, they all have Dragonav stocks not pistol grips. Also you might want to know the Polytechs are now going for $700.00 so you got quite a good deal through me, I just wish I had the thing still instead of the SLR.
