Which cheap knock off of the Dragunov is the best?
is it the Tigr or the SSG, or the ???

a TIGER is a draganov, only it has been "sporterized" by having a shorter barrel, 20 inch instead of 24 inches, front blade sight, no flash suppresor, bayo lug, and a civilian type buttstock and hand guards, which a military dragunov stock will fit it. and they are not "cheap knock offs" in any sense of the word, whether price (around 1300 dollars) or quality.
the SSG isn't even a draganov in any stretch of the imagination.....in construction or mechanically. it is a long barreled AK that fires a 54r......and those are not "cheap" unless you consider 700 bucks as nothing but pocket change.
if you want a true draganov then the TIGER is it.....if you can find one for sale at a decent price around 1300 bucks. more if it has the military stock set.
CALIFORNIA ARMORY did import a thousand dragunovs with the flash suppresor bayo lug military stock versions of the TIGER...those will run you about 2500 bucks or so.
then there are real soviet military SVDs only a hand full made it to this country.......those if you can find one for sale will set you back around 5 grand........or more.
so there really is no "cheap knock offs" of dragunovs.

and lets not forget about those cheap the Chinese NDM86 copies, built to Russian specs with Russian tooling for around a measly $1500-$1900;)

Whoopsie!!
I should have said "comparitively" cheap.
How long's the barrel on the SSG? Is the SSG a peice of inacurate S--- compared to a Tiger?

Accuracy will be affected by the type of ammo you shoot out of any gun AND the person behind the trigger.......you can have the best and most accurate gun in the world and if you can't shoot, you can't shoot............with that said, I've read some good things on the accuracy of the SSG. I took my TIGER to a indoor range and was surprised at the groupings I got, considering I was shooting it in a half ass crouching position, I real couldn't get in a real good prone supported shooting position.......as soon as the outdoor firing range opens back up, I'm going to take it out there and see what kind of groups I get
as for which is better, considering both where developed for long range firing beyond the AK.......I think they would probably be comparatively the same, although the tiger does have a thicker barrel, and it might be better in accuracy when the barrel gets hot, compared to the thinner SSG barrel.

I feel that the Tigr is the best quality of the guns that is not actually and SVD. Mine had about a 3.5# trigger pull and shoots very accurately. And it helps that is was built in Russia by Izmash so it is top quality as far as I'm concerned. :)
This one as it is, set me back a bit more than the price quoted above and I am very pleased. The only thing I would like to have is the SVD looking muzzlebrake (f/h) and maybe a few more 10 rd mags.

yep now that you mention it the quality is a lot better then the SSGs........the entire receiver is millled inside and out, the barrel is screwed in and not pinned, the scope rail is milled on the receiver......which IMO, would be a lot more accurate in holding a zero on the scope, as there won't be any 'flexing" of one that has a scope rail screwed or riveted in. finish on the tiger is far superior then the SSGs.
I've got a new SVD military stock set with the cheek pad coming from the "motherland" and my TIGER will look like yours Vette.......it's the damn wait that is killing me, I just hate that 'sporterized" stock on my rifle and that flimsey cheap platic hand guard.
I got a 10 round and a 5 round mag with the rifle.....if I can find some more 10 rounds at a good price I would get them as well.......I would be a bit hessitant to order a toy gun's flash suppresor...those are not meant for a real rifle but a toy......it's the same as folks buying those airsoft G3 mounts, looks good but doesn't hold up to the recoil.
dragunov parts dot com has some breaks, but their design isn't my cup of tea.

I have seen the brakes at dragunovparts but they don't do anything for me either. Too bulky and I want something that looks like the factory SVD. I wish someone would make an exact copy of the Russian model. I am a little hesistant about putting airsoft stuff on also, however, that pic of PeeWee's rifle looks awesome. :D

The Chinese is actually not made on russian tooling they actually reverse engineered their rifle, the 308 was made for american import and is of the same quality as the Russian when it comes to safe quality metal etc. except for the finish and sometimes fit. The 308 has some amazing accuracy potential some of the groups that i have shot with my match handloads have consistantly grouped to well inside of half inch and will regularly go into 3/8's of inch at 100 yards with 150 grain nosler match bullets and different powders that I have tried. I haven't been able to get accuracy that good with the 762x54r i think it is possible to get that kind of accuracy with the 762x54r but it seems that i have to work harder to get those kind of results the 308 case is actually better suited for pinpoint accuracy potential but the 762x54r is totally up to task for any big game in the United States and pinpoint accuracy is certainly not needed for that task. If you look around sometimes you can find a very good deal on a 308 chinese I happened to find mine for 1200.00 unfired in box about 6 months ago that is an exceptional deal, once CDNN runs out these will not stay at their prices of 1699.00, one other thing to mention is that you need to make sure that the firing pin has been converted to spring loaded firing pin since you most likely will be firing commercial hunting ammo.

Thanks! It's the Russian military finish. It differs somewhat from some of the other Russian SVD stocks that you see out there which were made specifically for the commercial market. I believe the guy I bought this gun from brought this stock set back from a trip which took him to E. Germany. He was working with the military to some capacity and was able to pick these out as they were changing out all their Russian made SVD's wood to the plastic furniture.:D

That color is beautiful, Looks like red mahogany.
I stained my romak 3 stock that color and it looks much better than the yellow that it came in.
One day soon I will get an NDM86 and stain it as well.
They look a little orange to me.

His name is Andrei. Email is: ruseller@fromru.com
I have seen some people have gotten pretty good stuff from him. However, the stuff I ordered from him that was supposed to be new (AKM sets) were unissued but had some scratches and storage dings. I sold most of them so it's OK.

Nice tigr Vette ....To muddy the waters even more,my wood hand guards came from an E.German armorer (8 years ago)and the buttstock came from berg(he says it came from poland) and they match perfect.

Haha. That's great! Just think if those things could talk. The way I see it, Russia is the only place (in Europe) where these things are made (as far as I know) and then shipped all over to their Combloc allies. The important thing is that they have now come together on your rifle! :D
Red shellac. Do an internet (www.google.com ) search and buy a small bottle. It'll give you that nice red as that is what the Russians originally used. If you get the real stuff, it comes from bugs that live on a certain kind of tree.

I don't have a digital camera right now, the cheesy jam cam that came with my system bit the dust after a month
of use.
It looks great though, alot like the picture above, just a little brown mixed in with the red. 100% better than the original color. it took several coats to get it right, but I am very happy with the results. I used minwax brand with sealer and stain already mixed. I also had to sand quite a bit to get through the original coat so the stain could penetrate into the wood. Well worth it though.
