Thanks for sharing the photo!

I think that is the first time I have ever seen a good picture of a RPD.

there is a guy who sets up at the local shows up here, and he has one on the table.......of course it's one of those post may samples, and he has a price of 5 grand on it...........I think he has it set up so that people flock to his table and look at what he has........the buttstock on that one is a RPK, not the "skeleton" one he has.........I'm wondering if a RPK stock fits that, would the RPD stock fit a RPK? and where would one get that type of stock (skeleton)? short of buying a RPD kit.

timkel, is that your dummy RPD? or is it the real deal?

it is sweeeeeeet :)

The RPD buttstock will not fit on a RPK.
The only "skeleton" type stock I am familiar with is used on PK and PKM.
The RPD in the above pic has a dummy receiver.

The RPK and RPD use the same type of club stock (no idea if they are compatable, probably not) and the same ammo. The RPD uses belts so the drums are not compatable. ANyone know if the sights and bipod for the RPK and RPD are the same or similar?

Is it true the RPD has a fire rate of only 150RPM that sounds insanely slow! Also I hear the RPD is actualy one of the lightest MGs in the world, is this true or just BS?

The PK series (Pulemyot Kalashnikova) is the one with the cool looking skeletal stock.

The new Pecheneg machine gun is about 80% PK but it has a improved barrel. The barrel allows for forced air cooling, but the barrel is not removeable. I always wondered why this wasn't tried before.

New barrel is heavy and ribbed, and enclosed in the metallic sleeve. During the fire, the hot powder gases emrging from the barrel cause the air in the sleeve to circulate along the barrel and cool it, so a sustained rate of fire of about 1000 rounds per hour, or about 600 rounds in long, sucesing bursts of 40-50 rounds each, can be maintained withouth any decrease of performance or barrel life. Overall barrel life is about 30 000 rounds or more.

while we're talking about stocks.

Look at the funky stock on this! Kord 12.7mm

I mean why even bother with wood at that point!

just looking at the MG34.com page of the RPD......that bipod looks awfully like the bipod that is on a MAADI RPM.

The firing rate for the RPD is 650 RPM.
The RPD was very lightweight for its time(60's)
It has been replaced with the RPK.
The RPD and RPK rear sight are very similar.
The bipods are very different. RPD having milled legs and the RPK legs are stamped steel.

Interesting gun, some people seem to swear at it while the other half swear for it. They are fun to shoot and decent in the accuracy dept. But I don't know at least for battle field purposes if it is worth the weight?
I have learned one thing from use always use the drum for it when firing, if not it causes a lot of stoppages during firing.
