I bought my M4 with the tele style stock already installed. It sucks that it cant truly be telescoping because that would violate BTAF specs. Its pretty much just for looks if thats what your going for. Just makes it more evil looking ;) .

This is how I do it. Remove the upper half. Take out the buffer and buffer spring. While sitting, put the lower between your legs with the end of the stock pointing at your face. Remove the top screw from the end of the stock. Pull the stock off the buffer tube. If you have an A2 stock there will be a spacer on the end of the buffer tube, just don't loose it. You might want to put it back on some day.
When you slide the stock off the buffer tube, there will be a spring sticking out of the lower. I would suggest just leave it there. If you keep the stock pointed up, it should stay put. If you let it fall out you could loose the spring, the takedown pin detent and the rear takedown pin.
Next you'll need a wrench (I can't remember what size) to unscrew the buffer tube. While unscrewing the buffer tube, keep your thumb on the buffer retainer or it will launch across the room. In case you don't know, the buffer retainer is that little pointed do hickey that keeps your buffer in the tube.
To install your telestock you need a telestock wrench. They go for between $5-$20. The cheap one's work fine.
Hold down the buffer retainer and screw in the buffer tube of the telestock untill it catches the buffer retainer. Now slide that little plate down to the lower so that it pushes the takedown detent spring in and tighten the nut with your telestock wrench.
I hope I didn't forget anything.
