They do nothing that an auto can't match or beat, and they are far behind the auto in the things that really matter.

Methinks "Gunkid" has resurfaced.

Mangun, I guess that explains their total lack of popularity, and why companies like Browning, Marlin, Ruger, Winchester and others continue manufacture & sell lever action rifles today. I realize now the my search for a Marlin 336 chambered in .35 Remington is in vain. I should just settle for a Barrett Model 82A-1 chambered in .50 BMG. Personal preference has no part in this, I should be looking for the biggest & baddest rifle possible. Resistance is futile....
I feel better now.

I take it "gunkid" was a troll?
This jackass "mangun" shows his/its/her lack of knowledge about firearms with every post.

incorrect, IF YOU CAN. Aint gonna happen, cause what I say is CORRECT. Popularity means NOTHING. There's MILLIONS of people who "think" that derringers, minirevolvers, .25's, etc are great guns for self-defense. FAR more than those who "think" that a lever action is better than an autorifle. :-) Just because YOU can't think or know the score, does NOT mean that others aren't WAY ahead of you.

Give the kid a break. It's not his/her fault that he/she thinks that way. You have to remember that his/her family tree is one straight stick with no branches.
Ya know, I have autoloaders, bolt actions, a pump action, and even single shots. But everytime I head up in the Rockies for a camping trip, hiking with the wife and dogs, or just because I want to be alone for awhile, it's the lever I grab to go with me. Between the S&W 629 and the Rossi 92, I could not ask for better friends.;)

Ya know.....there is a certain.....feeling shooting my old '94 30-30. It ain't special. Its got the factory iron sights. There is just this weird feeling when I shoot at a target 100 or 150 yards away and peg it. I can't explain the feeling, but when I fire that round and bring the rifle down....I have this shit-eating grin from ear to ear. :D
Wish I could explain it.......:aaa: better than sex....;)

I dunno, Lever guns really do have their own special place. I have heard the quote on more than on occasion that you have to own at least one levergun to be a true rifleman. And I do kinda agree. Growing up shooting my father's model 88 was always a gas. You just get this feeling rocking the lever back and forth. I do own a model 100, which is the same rifle in semi auto. But the day I do find myself an 88 that someone isn't asking a kings ransom for, I'll be a lever man too. Perhaps it's just the kid inside all of us that loves the novelty factor of a lever gun.
Widnerkj, first :welcome: to TGN. The jerk who started this thread in 2003 was a real piece of work. He didn't last long. The Win M88 is one I have never had the pleasure of shooting much less owning. I would dearly like to try one out one day. ;)

Im not a lever fan really .I do love the beauty of the guns and craftmanship but in general not for me.I have owned a marlin and loved it(until It jammed hard on me in the winter when I was hunting:()..One thing I like about levers is they are great for hunting being short the way most are.I wouldn,t mind owning one in like a 44 mag or 357.thats were I think they shine the most from what ive seen.speaking of shine I have a friend that has a beautifull brass reciever and octagon barrel lever(WOW!!)He says it is quite $$$...I feel that guns are like women in that the more you have the less you appreciate what you have.I only have 1 rifle and 1 women.and I appreciate them both very much..I don't know what I would do if I had to choose one over the other :big: he he!!(Oh GOD im in trouble now) :shtf:
My favorite in all the guns ive owned is my ar15.I am obsessed with it and its accuracy:) I have enjoyed two of them and handload for accuracy and range with it.. very fun..

I agree that the lever may not be technologically superior, but its a classic design and has a history in our country, just like people who restore old cars. or even modern cars going retro in there design. "those who dont embrace there history are doomed to repeat it." I own modern rifles lever, auto, bolt, and pump and like them all equally.
