actually chronoed at such speeds, in the early 70's, by the LEAA. That's 700 ft lbs. In the Early 80's, THV Arcane had a 60 gr .45 at 2300 fps. Those loads were fired in the regular guns of that day. Now when I say that a fully supported barrel, heavy springs, and .450 smc brass make it perfectly feasible to get 800 ft lbs, all the wussies come out of the woodwork to tell me that such loads are "too hot'. The truth is that such .45 loads are nothing like as hot as the 230 gr, 1350 fps of the .460 Rowland, which can be safely fired in such a set up 1911, with no problem. The bullet is about 2.5x as heavy, and the velocity is only 1/3rd less than what I stipulated. A lot of people have no clue about ballistics potential, but they sure are ready to TALK against such.
