OK. Does the butt stock bolt removal tool (Tapco) also pull the nut on the pistol grip? I don't have one by the way. I'd make a custom tool to take the grip nut off, but I don't have a screw driver wide enough to sacrafice.

Also, what's the easiest way to get the flash hider off (Imbel)? I don't want to ruin it in the process.

I've got the rest of my Imbel kit stripped and cleaned with all the small parts bagged and labeled as to what they are (so I can remember what goes where until I get some experience under my belt) . Real nice condition overall and the bore looks shiny and sharp. The recoil spring tube looks like the only part needing replacement as the threaded part is worn thin. That and maybe the recoil springs.

the buttstock tool is worth its weight in gold not as much for taking the nut and spring off but putting them all back in the buttstock.......I bought mine from Gunthings and DSA has the same one......

to remove the Imbel flash hider simply use a 3/8th's inch ratchet with no socket. It fits perfectly into the muzzle. Take a look in the end of the brake. It is squar looking. put the ratchet in it and turn it off. Remember, left hand threads....

Yes the Tapco tool will remove the buttstock and buffer spring assembly when the long rod is installed. Pull the rod out of the tool and now it's a pistol grip nut removal tool. I have this very tool, it works just fine.

Yeah the drive stud on a 3/8ths ratchet or breaker bar will remove an imbel flash hider. I read it on the FALFILES then tried it on both of my Imbel kits. Worked like a champ!.

Yes the TAPCO buttstock tool will also remove the nut on the plastic pistol grip.

This tool really is great. We have added a new feature to it this time around. Read about it in the description below. Price is $9.99

Now you can install that long wiggly spring into your FAL stock, and you don't need eight arms to do it! Finally, a cure for reinstalling your FAL, STG, L1A1 return springs. This alignment tool keeps the springs straight while you compress and tighten the retaining nut. This must-have tool has an added feature - unscrew the alignment rod from the "T" handle, and you have the perfect tool for the grip nut. A must-have for the grip screw nut, and for any FAL variant owner. And now an extra bonus in this tool is that the end of the rod is threaded to accept chamber brushes. All steel, made in the USA. Black oxide finish.

Tony@TAPCO, Just so you know, your latest flyer lists these for $6.99. The web site shows them at the price you stated however.

I ordered one from you today along with some other things.

Pa. Patriot has come up with a new timing tool for 26 bucks delivered. It uses the front sight and a level. I ordered one and will report back when it gets here....It is pretty straight forward.....
Here is a pic of it:

Got my butt stock bolt and grip nut removal tool from Tapco. No success so far in getting my grips off. The tool is too large in diameter to fit in the hole on the G1 wood grip in order to reach the nut. On my Imbel, the tool doesn't fit the slots on the nut, blades are too thick. I guess I'll have to file the blades on the tool down a bit so it will at least work on the Imble. As for the G1, I guess I'll have to buy and sacrafice a wide blade screw driver for that one.

that's weird because mine has fit perfectly. It must not be the same tool I got. Maybe a clone.........sorry to hear of your troubles..

I got the timing tool from PaPatriot and it is just right. I think it will make timing barrels an easier job now.......Not a bad investment for 26 dollars.....

Retvet,
Have you called us about your problem. This is the first negative feedback I have had on the 3 in 1 tool. If you have not called please do, so that we can get this taken care of. Just call the number below. Thanks

Tony,
Tried calling, but got a message saying you have phone problems in-house at this time. Anyways, here's the scoop...

The diameter of the main body of the tool (part with the T-handle affixed) is about 1/16 inch too large in diameter to fit into the hole on the G1 wood grip. Unlike the plastic grips, the G1 wood grip just has a hole leading to the retaining nut. I can put the calipers on it tomorrow and give the exact size if needed, but I'm sure you can do that there also. Maybe the hole on my grips were extra tight.

As for fitting the Imbel grip, the blades on the tool just needed a light filing to fit the grip nut slots. I think the main problem however, was the gap between the two blade pieces where the rod screws in. This gap needed to be about 1/16 inch larger to accomodate the fact that the screw that the grip nut screws on to was sticking up and interferring with the blades (not allowing them to go into the slots of the grip nut far enough).

I can still call to clarify if needed. Just let me know.

To accomodate my G1 project, I went ahead and made a tool to remove the grip nut. I used the blade end of and old tire iron I had no need for. The blade was about 1/2 inch wide with the rod being of solid steel bar. I used a dremel tool and my bench grinder to shape it similar to the TAPCO tool, but with slightly longer blade segments and a little larger gap in the middle. I cut the excess part of the tire iron handle off making the tool about 4 inches long. I then drilled a hole through it to insert a rod for a T-handle. Again, like the TAPCO tool. My improvised tool works pretty good, but that's only because custom made tools usually do. The TAPCO tool will still come in handly for installing that recoil spring, which was the main reason I got it.

Thanks zouave for the heads up.
:)
