hehehe, for my two FAL buids that I seem to have running simultaniously......First pic is my Ironwood Furniture that I sealed and finished yesterday. The picture doesnt do it justice. It is as smooth as a piece of glass. I used a satin finish on it and am thinking of going high gloss on it with a few coats. Any opinions ? I know most people dont think wood on Military guns should be shiny....but this one wont go to North Korea when we take care of them next. These are Ironwood 2nds so that is why the butt and forearm dont match in color. I think I will order another forearm to match and it would look better but of course all wood isnt perfect so there is an argument to leave it as is. Let me have you input, I would like to hear everyones opinion on it.

Here is a set of DSA's X Series Furniture in Green. I really like the feel of this even though it isnt wood. I much prefer wood on a rifle, pistols too for that matter.......I think it looks a little futuristic with the hole in the buttstock. I know MAK's hav had then for years........hehe

I use a mixture of 1 part BLO 1 part beeswax and 1 part turpentine. Gives it a nice matte finish that hold up well.

That is some beautiful wood!... is that Black Walnut?

Also on the DSA stock, Is it a funny type green in person, or is it true olive drab?

sorry for the delay guys. My Mother had some sort of episode today and we still arent sure what it was. Her blood pressure dropped (when she arrived at the ER) to 70/30....She had some pain in her neck and her left arm was numb and she lost all vision.
Docs havent completely ruled out a mild heart attack but her EKG's and MRI looked very good, pressure is back up to 130 /80 and she is feeling much better now. She is 68 and very healthy. Please say a prayer for her. I couldnt stand loosing her. I might be a big mean paratrooper but down deep I am a softie when it comes to Family and I love my Mom amd Dad dearly......Thanks
I just walked in from the ER. They will keep her overnight just to observe but feel she is fit to go home in the morning. My Sister and Dad are still with her but I came home to rest up in case they dont let her out in the morning so I can break her out......hehe

The Ironwood finish is varathane which is a mix of polyurethane & Varnish. It is made for hardwood floors and it penetrates deep into the wood. I decided to go ahead and put some more finish on it and put the first coat of about 15 of Danish oil which also penetrates pretty well.

CETME, yes it is black walnut and the DSA is not quite a true OD but it is close....I was worried over that too but after seeing it when it got here I like it. It is more OD than pea green.......

Chris, we already built that deck......remember??.........
My wallet does..........:)

WOW, SalBo!!

I am certainly relieved that your Mother is doing better!! You just never know how or when something like that may strike. Yes, buddy, she is in my prayers tonight. I know my parents are both well up into their years and I'll lose them someday, but man I hate the thought of that ever happening. I know how it is to love someone so dearly that losing them would tear a chunk of your heart out. Watch over her, Bobby. May she regain all that was lost today.

And the wood is gorgeous, buddy. I want to see the finished product.... but first, get your Mother well.

Hope your Mom gets and stays well, SalBO. My Mom and Dad are that exact age and I worry about the two of them constantly.

I'll keep y'all in my prayers.

Hey, I just got a set of that Ironwood too. I'm putting it on my STG-58. I ordered it unfinished from Dan at VOW way back in February, but due to a mixup, just got it last week. It was worth the wait though. It's nice wood.

I think high gloss would look real nice on it. I'm probably going to go satin by just rubbing Tung in it though since I'm not all that good with wood finishing. I can never seem to get it shiny no matter what I do.

Where did you get yours from SALBO?

Best wishes to your mom, I hope she's feeling better!

Good News Guys. We brought Mom home around noon today and she is fine. Doc told her to rest a few days in bed but other than that, no restrictions. They did every concievable test inclding an CAT scan last night and an MRI this morning. All blood test showed normal except her white count was up last night slightly but that is from a steroid she has been taking for pain in her hip. The only thing that the Doctors can think of made her go out like she did was that she gave blood yesterday. Her and my Dad go every 3 or 4 months or however often they are allowed to give and have never had any reaction to it . They have done this for 30 years. Anyway, no more donations will she make. I laid the law down on that one and she agreed. Scared the crap out of me last night and I laid and worried all night last night.
Anyway, thanks for all your prayers because they were answered......

Now, let's talk about guns !!!

I have put two coats of Danish Oil on top of the Varathane so far and it is getting a little gloss to it. I like Danish oil alot but it takes many many coats to build up a nice finish and it needs 24 hours between coats. So if you decide to use it go with many very thin coats for a great finish. It is very simple to use.

dmk0210, I ordered mine from Matt at Ironwood.....if you want a high gloss shine that is pretty quick and durable try Minwax wipe on poly. You can stain under it and it looks good. I have put it on all my SKS's......

Good to hear Salbo.

So how many FALs you got going now? Seems I read you got another pair of Imbel kits.

Thanks RetVet.......

I have four Imbel kits

only one receiver in hand but two more should have shipped the end of this past week according to my sources.....all geal logo Imbel

I have two barrels ready to go with brakes installed and two more will be ready by the end of this week......

I have two sets of furniture ready to go. One Ironwood and an X set from DSA in green. Well, the Ironwood will be ready when I decide to stop putting Danish oil on it which could be this week most likely.

I have FSE HTS sets for all four kits..........

I have two kits parked and ready to assemble but the two newest kits havent even been opened yet except to break down the front end in order to get the barrels in the mail to be cut, threaded and crowned..

I am looking at Izzy furniture for the third rifle and will most likely order it this week.

The fourth kit will be on hold until I decide exactly what I want to do with it. Most likely, black furniture with a 16.5 bbl with a long STG58 brake........
