Received my RPK stock set from Kvar to install on my NHM91. This will have to do untill Kvar gets the RPK sets. I can tell right away the lower handguard is going to be a royal PITA to install. The upper handguard and buttstock, less so.
What I can't believe is how short the pull of the stock is. What, were all the Russian conscripts all five feet tall?

I was suprised by the lenth also. Oh well, the Russian laminate looks great.
K-Var has already started getting in some of the RPK kits. They said they have many more on the way, but I do not think I would cut down your lower grip to fit the handguard if you plan on getting the kit soon.

Length of pull on my RPK is 12" which is a good 5/8" to 3/4" shorter than any of my other AK's. I am 6' tall and it does not seem too weird, as AK's go

Fire you rifle from the prone position and you will see why the stock is so short.

there a couple of valid reason why AK stocks are short.....
1) the average slav is small in stature, weapons designed, as well as uniform boots etc... for a country's military have to take in account all kinds of aspects of physical characterics of the average person of that country......for instance the M16A2 buttstock was lengthen from the A1 buttstock was. if you look at boot sizes of rusians vs American soldiers, russians tend to be the 8 or 9 sizes....very rare to find 10s.......the average boot sizes for US military is sizes 10 and up. unifroms tend to be small or medium....vs large in the russian sizes
2) the stock is short to accomedate the bulky overcoat, and the uniform of what the soldier will wear in the winter months...lets face it, there is more months of cold then warm in the european theather.
I tend to believe number 1 more then 2.

Maybe I'll just try to find a barrel assembly...

Do a search on my user name for my experiences installing that RPK set on an NHM-91. "PITA" doesn't come close to it ;)
Turned out pretty good, though...
