This isn't exactly an AR-15 but thought this would still be a good place to post my question.

I was at the gun store today and saw a AR-15 or so I thought. I sarted looking at it and it turns out it is a 22lr gun. Not an AR-15 sure looks like one though at first glance.

So I was hoping for some more info on it before posiably buying one as I know nothing about them prety much.

Any ways I don't have a 22 so I was thinking this would be pretty cool for a 22. I have don'e some quick looking on the web and here is what I have found out.

I belive it is called an AP-74 and it is made in itialy by Armi Jager. I know it was made in italy as I noticed that on the reciver. I didn't look to see what model it was though Should have looked but didn't cross my mind untill I got home. I am pretty sure it is the AP-74 though from what I have found on the web.

The rifle feeds from a little mag that fits in the part of what would normally be a 20 round mag on an AR-15. It is a 15 round mag I think at least from the one web site I have seen on it says. It has a bayonet lug so it must be a preban. The idea of a bayonet on a 22 I find funny but cool. Has one of the old 3 prong flash supresors too. It screws off. The rear sight looks like it is adjustable for windage by use of a screw.

All in all looks like an interisting rife and it is $249.99. Is that a good price and are these rifles a pice of crap or are they ok. That just seems like a really low price for a preban anything.

these are really hard to find now. i belive they were later sold as mitchell arms. they had a car-15/22 a m-16/22 and a ak-47/22. i saw them advertised in the mid to late 80s in the shotgun news. i bought one a few years ago on gunbroker.com. go to gunbroker or gunsamerica.com or auctionarms.com and do a search. they are neat guns. there is a close copy of the ak-47 still available for about 200.00 from various wholesalers in shotgun news. the replacement or extra mags are expensive.

good luck finding one! the quest is the fun part.
