I have a FR8 Mauser. I was wondering what type of action it has. 98? Large ring? etc. Any help would be great.

They are modified from the Spanish 1943 rifle. Not sure if they are a 98 action or not but they are considered a large ring action and were originally chambered in 8x57mm. HTH and welcome to the forum.

Based in my one evenings worth of research(I just bought my FR8 yesterday;) ), it seems that the FR8's are indeed considered M98-pattern actions and therefore offer many additional desirable features over the FR7 to include large ring, three locking lugs(one's an emergency backup) ,and better gas-handling characteristics in case of a ruptured cartridge. They are safe for 7.62 nato by all accounts, indeed the spanish military manual says as much putting to bed the rumor of these things being chambered for the weaker 7.62 Cetme.;)
