We finished up the first prototype of the Hungarian rifle, and the model name is SSR-85. Here are pictures:

The price is not set yet, but I would guess retails in the $550-575 range.
It will come with a sling, a cleaning kit, a trigger lock, and a marvelous 5 round magazine for your high volume fire needs.
Let me know what you think.

I have seen the rcvr & wood in your earlier posts. Where does the "guts" and barrel come from? Polish parts?

Jimmy, is there a reason for why you COMPLETELY grind off the cleaning rod retaining loop and notch?

Mike

You guys are way too sharp-eyed. On this prototype, we used the SA-85 sporter gas block and front sight support. The production one will have the catch for the cleaning rod on the front sight support and the loop on the gas block, but no bayonet lugs.
Distribution is still under negotiation. We would prefer one national distributor to handle sales and let us concentrate on making rifles. I'll keep you updated on when they will be for sale.
This rifle will have Hungarian barrel (hammer forged), sights, gas block, receiver, receiver cover, buttstock and handguards. The carrier, return spring and breechblock will be from a different source, equally high quality. The hammer, trigger, disconnector, pistol grip, gas piston, and muzzle brake will be US.
We will also be building the Polish rifles on the same receiver. Probably a different model designation, but the same furniture.

Saw the gun at the Houston show. The wood was beautiful, the park job outstanding. Fit and finish were great. The pics do not do it justice. Originally posted by Jimmy @ Arsenal USA:

Don't mean to be an ass, but can we get a different brake? I prefer big ugly ones, Krinkov to be exact.

I would never consider a potential customer to be an ass. At least you would never get me to admit it. I have followed this rule for years dealing with the fair sex and it has saved my rear many times..
Since this rifle is really an AKM, we thought the AKM brake would be the most appropriate.
The realities of building these rifles in the quantities we will need to build them probably won't allow any custom modifications in the process.
Here is the latest estimate on availability.
The first thing we will have available is a run of Polish rifles built on the FEG receiver. We have some vacation and other downtime coming in E. Europe over the summer, and it is going to make our process a bit dicey in the next month of so.
These Polish-based rifles will have the same furniture as the one in the picture, and will look essentially the same.
The Hungarian-based rifle will probably start showing up in August. I have spent the last three days working on logistics. I may not have much hair on my head by the time we get this going.

Hello Mr. Streetman. Wow, the furniture sure looks nice on these rifles. When do you expect to have the milled receiver Hungarian stocksets available for shipping? I was sort of disappointed on not being able to get one of your Polish laminated stocksets. Still going to be putting the non-laminated Polish milled stocksets up for sale? I really like the Hungarian stockset. Let me ask you this: Do the Polish non-laminate stocksets you are planning to possibly sell for milled receivers have the trapdoor in the buttstock for the toolkit?

The Polish solid wood stock sets from the PMKM sets will be up for sale as soon as we start building rifles with these sets. We will build them on the FEG receivers, so we won't be able to use the milled stock sets. As soon as we are sure the project is a go,k we will start stripping the sets, and will be the stocks packaged up and ready. They do have the toolkit door on the metal buttplate. They do not have the sling swivel on the butt--these are from early rifles that had the sling attachment on the receiver.
The Hungarian milled sets have been delayed while they solve some fitting problems. The stamped sets will leave Hungary in about a week.

Hey Jimmy is Jerry building these? I hope so, he is the best looking at the SSR-99's.

We are building the rifles here in Houston. The SSR-99s that were being bragged about recently were from the Houston production.
Prices aren't set yet--we still have some costs not nailed down, but they will be less than the SSR-99s, probably by quite a bit.

Less than SSR-99`s how come? I thought they would be around the same price or more.
Jimmy @ Armory USA
06-23-2000, 11:31 AM
We would love to get even more, but we don't think the market will support it. With high volume production, we expect to make a fair profit at lower prices.

I agree with the lower prices. That way we can get a decent AK for a good price. This is good thinking Jimmy! Thanks!

I hope they're less than the SSR-99s....considering those were going $800 (retail) when they entered the market!!!! Don't think a stamped, wood furntiture postban with high manuf. numbers could bring $800 or even higher........

Recon it seems like forever but of course us 47.net guys are always promised these new rifles first- guess what, it never happens. We knew about the SSR-99's for months and guess what, they sold out or were already "ordered" by someone else before anyone on this board got one, very few of us who were actually interested got one so I expect the same with these rifles as well. They introduce the rifles to us on this website to see how well they would go over with the gun community then take orders from dealers and distributors leaving us only empty promises.

Bryant your right! He say`s that the new rifles are all ready for a distributor to be named later. Now don`t forget that Gordon Tech has the new SSR-99`s and RPK`s coming out too! So will have to wait and see. I forgot all about that Bryant. Thanks.

Well we all forget once in a while, just thought I would remind ya's how what Jimmy says- sounds GREAT but that is all you get, a nice picture, plenty of hope- and an empty spot in your gun cabinet.
