I love the new 7.62's you're going to be marketing... but I'm also READY for a high quality AK-74 in 5.45x39, ready for the German Bakelites... My SAR2 is nice, but I want a piece of artwork for the next one http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif
Any plans? http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

I'll be patient - and I'll pay you up to two months ahead of time http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif This is JUST what I've been hoping for. Please put a nice evil '74 brake on it?

We have tentative plans to make a AK-74 from a Bulgarian AK-74 parts set. Probably on the Hungarian recevier. We will use either the Bulgarian black plastic furniture, or the new wood sets from Hungary, or maybe both.
This won't be real soon, so be patient.

We should be able to use the original brake. Worst case, our exact US-reproduced 74 brake as used on the K-101.
The rifle will be as close as you will ever come to a real Soviet AK-74. The Romanian one was actually invented before the Soviet one, and doesn't have the latest refinements Mr. Kalashnikov added in development.

The way I usderstand the story (I don't know for certain that I am right) the Romanians first introduced their 5.45x39.5 weapon, and the Soviets saw it and though it was promising. They made the changes such as the smaller barrel trunnion, different barrel taper, different breechblock, more elaborate muzzle brake, ect, and the rest of the Comblock followed the Soviet pattern.
I don't remember where I heard this, so it could well be wrong.

thanks, jimmy. in all the reading i have done, this is the first i had heard of this. i was under the impression that the soviet small arms r and d came up with the round and trialed it. i have heard that kalasnikov, himself was initially against the adoption of the 5.45 for service. very interesting. please keep us informed of anything you glean on this subject from your travels and dealings.
btw...i really like my sar-2. the 5.45 calibre is, imho, much better suited to the ak platform than the original 7.62.

How can you get the barrels or recievers? I heard the new ban would stop all that, or was that all a bunch of NET bullshit?

This post was started prior to the import restrictions. Best bet for a high quality 74 would be to secure your parts set or SAR-2 now and have a smith perform their magic.
Jimmy let me say I want to be first on the list for that '74 http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/biggrin.gif http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/biggrin.gif
Wood stocks would suit me just fine.
This is the one I'VE been waiting for!
Any anticipated price range?
Remember, I said "range" (all I'm asking), so don't get all excited now http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/wink.gif
