Well, is it? I've begun earnest discussion and made a statement of intent to go forward in a transaction on those terms and am planning to send the money on Monday. I just feel like it is soooo much $$ for an AK and then I started wondering if it was actually worth it. Obviously, I have to fish or cut bait by Monday. What do you guys say....????

XOX,

The Bulgarian SLR95 is one of the best post ban AK variant around. Having said that, you can get a customized AK with all the evil features for a just a little more money. For $600 you can also buy a couple of the SAR or Maadi AKs which cleans up very nicely. BTW, I have two SLR95s that I'm enjoying very much. I'm thinking I'd like to have one of them restored to original configuration ala SSR99 by one of our resident board gunsmith. It's your money, make a command decision. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif Good luck!

For $600 dollars you can buy a $239 Bulgarian parts kit, with a $100 dollar US parts, $150 Bulgarian reciever and still have a little left over to have the thing built by a good gunsmith- don't buy the SLR- it sucks because it could be a great rifle but it looks like Clinton himself OK'd it.

XOX,
I also answered you on your other post, what I do when I want to know if a price is good, I go to www.armsamerica.com (http://www.armsamerica.com) and look at the listings for that gun, just a quick fast way to double check prices because there are alot of guns listed. Just go to the AK secion and look through all the listings, will probably be pages, and just see what dealers and others are selling them for. Just what I would do, up to you. I don't like to comment on prices people get, unless it is a really good low price. Oh yea here is an all Bulgarian for on sale .gunbroker.com check it out, only has 12 hrs left as of this post. www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=439037 (http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=439037) will be worth a look for you, if you really want the thumbhole stock I am sure someone would trade the parts on these guns for there thumbhole they have on there 95.

IMHO, Bryant is dead wrong in his evaluation of the SLR-95 rifle. Clinton clearly could have had nothing to do with this rifle being in this country. If liberals knew in '89 what loopholes they were sewing with that dumb AW ban and that this sweet rifle would be coming in, along with many other thumbhole AK variants, they'd have written a much more teethy law. [for which I am ever so grateful that they did not!]
This fine AK is very appealing to the eyes of many beholders as I've found out on numerous trips to shooting ranges.
Guys that show up with historically correct Maadis and what ever else are often clearly jealous to view the Kalashnikov equivalent of a Mercedes relative to thier Chevrolet. And I'm a Chevy kind of guy; they run and do their job. But ALL the parts in my SLR are high quality Bulgarian military grade heat treated steel; much nicer than the components found in most U.S. parts-equipped pistol grip/buttstock configured Kalashnikovs. And not only does the Bulgarian THUMBHOLE stock fit well in in my hand, it looks rather menacing too. Not to mention the obvious advantage w/regard to strength/rigidity it offers by being ONE piece as opposed to two. True, I don't like the politics at work in getting that stock on my rifle, but the stock is fine. A friend of mine who used to compete in rifle matches when he was on the U.S. Air Force shooting team (shooting Super Match M-14s (like the M1A1 I hope to own someday) loved shooting my SLR-95.

Plus, it looks great with a Russian 75 rnd drum and any other double stack magazine one wants to feed to it whatever ammo one has on hand; the SLR takes it all just fine with no hiccups. I sure do like the SSR-99, but I have the feeling that the original import configuration of the SLR-95 will be highly sought after in the years to come. So I am not parting with its thumbhole stock, which is significantly longer than the military buttstock and therefore better fit for my larger than your typical Russian frame.

And, she looks ever so fine with a 30 round Bulgarian waffle mag in her. Ohhhhhhh yeah.

Simply, thats a rape. While that is a fine rifle, I think SOG has a SRL 96 around $400 and you'll have to give an FFL about 40 - 50 bucks for the transfer.

Forget It! Anybody paying over $600 for an AK these days should be looking for a Pre'89 ban rifle. AK dollars go a lot farther now than they did a year ago (Norinco Fixed Stock AKMs can now be found for $700 and Underfolders for $900). Anybody who pays more than $450 for an SLR95 without any upgrades is making a poor decision these days.

Who ever says that you are being ripped off if you pay more than 400.00 for an slr95, just offer 20.00 dollars for them to find you one for 400.00 see how long it takes. 600.00 seems like a lot but I can't find a NIB for any less than that.

$150 for a NEW Bulgarian milled receiver.
$300 for a NEW K-VAR Bulgarian parts kit with USA stockset.
$200 to get it assembled for you.
$ 15 for a USA gas piston. (the only other additional USA part you need besides the stock in a milled rifle.

Uh that's $675 for a NEW Semiauto AK-47 in PREBAN STYLE using the original Bulgarian trigger parts.

Is that a better deal than $600 for a NIB SLR95?

WAAAY BETTER!

Regards,
Mike
