I have a Bulgarian stock from K-VAR and would like to install it without the bottom tang so the origanal thumbhole stock can still fit.

Does anyone make a bracket that fits in the back of SLR-95 receiver that facilitates bolting the stock right to it?

Will a 'Shock Buff' help keep the rear of the bolt from smashing into hardware back there?

Thanks...

Look at the back of the milled receiver - see how it is curved.

Now, go buy a fender washer... curve it to fit in a vice. Match the curve carefully, then drill a screw hole into the portion of the stock that goes into the receiver. Use screw and fender washer, and you will have a very strong 2nd attachment point. TRY to get the bolt carrier to go back that far - it won't http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

If your Bulgarian rifle is like my SLR then you can install the lower tang right into the existing groove. Apparently a good number of the Arsenal rifles were machined such that the lower tang could be installed right away, and many were not. Though mine has the groove, I am inclined to try the "fender washer" method so that I may quickly swap back to the thumbhole.

Just do it legal and use the required USA parts on your rifle. Then you don't have to "quickly" switch back to the thumbhole stock. Why on earth would you want to do that?

Why not use the proper tang and instead of riveting it in place use machine screws to fasten it. It would work, the screw heads and nuts wouldn't show and you could "quickly" change back to a thumbhole should that nasty pistol grip scare you.

Mike

Thanks eveyone for your help.

Those are great pics Valmet! And as far as the 922(r) goes, I have decided to swap parts anywhere but the fire-control group...at least until a someone comes out with either a single hook USA trigger or a stiffer spring set. The USA parts I used, FSE, leaves the trigger w-a-y too light for all that take-up.
