I have a AK that I'm building that the bolt won't close on.

It's a milled Bul. receiver and a Polish underfolder kit.

I pressed the barrel in the receiver and I never could get the bolt to close to headspace.

So I started pulling the barrel out and it still won't close even w/o the guage in the chamber.

The gas piston is not hitting inside the gas block.

Any help would be appreciated...

thanks.....MK-ULTRA

Without seeing the problem its hard to speculate, but look from below and see if something is keeping the bolt from rotating, like a burr or rough spot on the "turning head" slope in the receiver. The bolts should be already machined with the turning surfaces, since there were in functioning rifles in Poland.

Since pulling the barrel back and removing the gauge din't affect the problem, it is definitely not short headspace.

Jimmy's correct, its doesn't take a "guru," miracle worker," etc. to figure out a problem such as this, its just basic gunsmithing 101. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif Insert the bolt without the carrier, and watch its path. Normally you'll find a rail to trunnion, or a snag in the bolt turning. Could be numerous other things, you have to just look, or e-mail me and I can walk you through trail and error. Good luck.

Well I figured it out....I am using a full auto kit (which they all are). And a Bulgarian semi auto receiver.

The I guess its the sear trip on the right side of the bolt. (the part that curves down at the rear lower right side of the bolt). It was catching inside of the receiver. I just cut off the curved part(I hated doing that)and made it stright. Like on a simi auto bolt. Now the bolt closes all the way.

Hasent anyone else had this problem? I would think this would have to be done on all bolts. Or cut the receiver...but I didn't want to.
