Man, if it wasn't good enough with the K-31, today the Albanian SKS and the in the wrap M95 arrived. Woah! AIM, either because they are just great at what they do OR by some fluke of nature, I have received rifles that I would grade WAY better tyan advertised.
My Albanian has a honey orange finish, some dings on the right side (not many, more like scratches) and no other blemishes or chips or runs. Blue is a solid 95% and only showing wear near the barrel end where the bayonet sleeve slips over. The cosmo is more than I would have ever guessed and I spent two hours tonight getting the majority of it off. WOW! What a beauty! This made my day.
Now the M95 is odd. The wrapper was there, 3 layers worth. What I thought was cosmo on the wood is actually a piss poor job at varnishing/shellac over wood that has seen its best day back in the Coolidge administration. Its going to clean up well but I have to strip the nasty shellacquer goo, its literally bubbled. So much for original finishes, I just can't live with this. Metal is phenominal though, 100% blue, its a Hungarian one marked BUDAPEST but has the "S" on the barrel like the Austrian ones, not the "H" I expected. There are cool little eagle crests on it in a few locations too. I will examine for waffenamps too, as these were used by the German police. Who knows. The thing is also covered in sand and weeds, as if they dropped it when they dipped it in cosmo. Hmmmm. Still, I have 300 rounds of ammo for it and it is a light and handy little rifle. I will get another! Need a Styr to go along with it. I used to hate these things, but this rifle is pretty neat.
