am I correct in assuming that the "selector" on an AK, is the metal bar type piece on the right side of the gun? my uncle before he died was in the D.E.A., and after his death my aunt was nice enough to give me his old rem model#700, but while I was searching through the attic for it I came across an AK. folding stock, and cromed out like the ones used on the old A-Team show. Didn’t think much about it at the time, but as I have read up ok ak's im wondering if I was to look at the gun I would be able to tell if it is a MG or a pre-ban AK with folder etc. etc. any ideas? p.s. the gun is in the next state so I don’t exactly have access to it right now. thanks

Dirtybob,
The gun, if full auto, will have 3 notches in the receiver where the selector positions itself.

You sure it wasn't a Mini-14? That's what the crew had on the A-Team.

pretty sure, it had a pistol grip, and an underfolding stock. also I remember a "banana clip" type magazine. don’t mini-14's take a mag that is straight then curves about halfway down? the mag that was in the gun I saw looked like an ak mag to me. I only looked at it for a few seconds. I thought the A-team weapons were ak's, that’s why the gun stuck out in my memory. pistol grips and chrome/silver receivers and barrels. I could be wrong but I thought it was an ak. I’m going to ask my aunt if I could buy it from her, along with my uncles other guns. Hmmm ...mini-14...I could swear that Hannibal, Merdock, Face and Mr.T used Ak's. odd. must just be selective memory. thanks

If it's full auto AK, it will also have an extra pin hole in the receiver. The extra pin will be located on the receiver just above the FRONT of the magazine catch. There will also be a pin in the receiver just above the REAR of the magazine catch. These pins will be approximately 3/4 of an inch apart, with the pin in the rear being slightly higher on the receiver than the one on the front.
If it is a full auto, please remember that it must be registered. If it's not, there's no way that a civilian can own it legally.
I also thought that the A-Team used Mini-14's. Did you ever notice that although those guys did a lot of shooting, no one ever died from a gunshot in their episodes. It used to astound me that these guys could lay out 10,000 rounds at a distance of 40 feet at a guy standing out in the open, and never hit him. That's Hollyweird for ya...

Just to let everyone know the A-team does use chrome mini-14's. I watch it almost every day still.

FA Mini-14s are AC556 =D

It is better to give than receive...Esp when High velocity projectiles are involved.
