1. Pick this one up some time ago and just got around to working on her today. Someone had taken the firingpin out and jammed it back in with the bolt inside the rifle. I can only assume they did this so no one would fire it. I had to take the side latch off and then using a screwdriver slowly turn the firing pin back down so it would slide out. Once this was done it was nothing to take down and clean her up.

2. It is now shootable with a 6.5X50R Arisika caliber.

Pretty neat. I need to consider moving to a few jap weapons one of these days. So can it shoot now?? I'm happy you got it unjammed. I remember when you first got this. Looks great!

Type 38, eh?

Nice job there.

I recommend getting a 7.7 cal if you have to have a shooter Japanese rifle. Not cheap, but cheaper than 6.5 IIRC.

NW - I did find a place selling Nambu ammo. About $55 a box IIRC. No idea of manufacture or number of rds/box. Eric at www.oldgunsupply.com has/had it in his store a couple of weeks ago.

Looks nice neil. I've yet to ever pick up or see a Japanese rifle in person. Maybe one of these days....

Neil,

Very nice! Does it have a MUM on it? I'll bet it would be a great shooter.

1. Unfortuantely no MUM. My Type 99 and the two Type 39 rifles do however and my Nambu has all the prrofmarks. Ive just about finished this collection set.

Nice looking rifles.

I admire you guys who venture out to a lot of different makes, models, and even countries of origin regarding your firearms collecting. I'm more of the type that studies and researches one model to death and seldom ventures far away. I could probably tell you or research and fiind you what most every jot and tittle means on a carbine or Garand or '03 Spriingfield, but I don't think I have the nads to drop the bucks on a Mauser or Arisika that I know absolutely nothing about.

Nothing wrong with specializing. I wish I had the restraint to do that. Perhaps some day I will.
