I swapped my Imbel Gear Logo type 3 receiver over to an Imbel kit I got from Tapco before they ran out. Needs bead blasting and reparking but she's functional. Tomorrow I take er out and test fire it. I also need to put on a US compliant muzzle device and permanently fix it to the barrel. That will be my 7th US part. Right now it's got a Penguine stock set and pistol grip with an FSE fire control group so these make up 6 US parts of the 7 required with a threaded muzzle.

You know, I've bled on some of my guns, but I don't have clue what a wesog is. Thanks

WECSOG means:
W ile
E.
C oyote
S chool
o f
G un
S mithin (no g) ;)
One must use a dremel and small cuttoff wheels and burrs to achieve true Wecsog status on a build.:D

BTW here's the barrel vice setup that I used. It's made by Gunsnets PA_Patriot.
Vise Package + Timing device, Vise (in the white), FAL Bushing, Hex wrench, Rosin, Timing tool complete package price is $169.00
http://www.millenicom.com/~patriot/FAL/vise/vise_bbl.JPG
Here's the barrel timing tool, a platform that screws into the front sight post hole and you then put a level on it. Once the barrel is level then you put a level on the rails of the receiver and crank until it too is level. If both parts are level, the barrel is now top dead center. It's very fast guys, made the job a piece of cake kind of easy. I highly recommend his product. Here's a link to his site. http://www.millenicom.com/~patriot/FAL/vise.html

Thanks Salbo. Having my first experience with the Penguin sets now I can see they are ok but really the Brazilian Imbel stock parts are heavier duty. Still you can't beat 6 US parts for $88.88 from FAC. It's the cheapest way to compliance. If one can stand the expense substituting a US charging handle and a US gas piston would probably be better as the original stock parts are tougher than the Penguin furniture. If a guy wanted to go top drawer and didn't care about expense the new Imbel stock and forearm forom SARCO or Dealers Wearhouse for $80 each part would make an impressive Imbel build. The rifle would look almost like it rolled out of the Brazilain assembly line with them in place and a good Guncoat over Park finish.

I assume you are referring to new Imbel handguards and buttstocks. I looked but can't find them on DSA's web site. I see STG58 and Izzy stocks and handguards, but no Imbels.

yep their STG58 parts....sorry
Schuetz we spent the afternoon doing the same thing !
I barreled a gear logo Imbel for a co-worker of mine using my new AGI receiver wrench. I broke a vise doing it. That makes 3 vises I have broken. I buy them cheap at the flea market.
one day I am going to spend the cash on a forged vise but until then the $12 specials will have to do.

I got to see the prototype for PaPat's vice. Top quality stuff there. You can't go wrong. I bet shipping for that thing was through the roof.
Nice build, Schuetzenman. I hope to have one in my safe in the near future.;)

PBR, You've got to get one of these barrel vices. It makes putting on a barrel so easy. I think it took 10 minutes from start to finish to put the barrel on the first time. That included the time to put the barrel in the vice, put the level tool in the front sight hole, tighten and level the barrel with the vice then screw on the receiver install the action wrench, put on the breaker bar and torque it to level.
Now for a range report. I took this one and the G1 out as I had swapped the type 3 Imbel to this Imbel kit and took the FAC type 1 and put it on the G1. Both rifles were within 4 clicks of windage on the rear sights from being eyeballed in the middle of the receiver flat. So this leveling technique works pretty darn good! I'm jazzed with the system.
The only problem with this vice setup is that I don't think PA Patriot can make them fast enough for the demand! ;)

Hey PA Patriot, how about a suggestion if you aren't already working on it.
Same principle, but a little narrower and for use on it side, as in pressing a trunion onto an AK barrel.
You could maybe notch the plates for the sight block which is usually still on AK kits?
Maybe even include tooling so the press can " get around" the assembled reciever?
What do you think?
You'd probably sell a few in the build it yourself forum.
If I had a mill,I'd be in business with a modified version for the AK!
DAMMIT. The wife just bought a craftsman garden tractor, there goes my mill.........

Sorry about that. I saw "Patriot" and stopped reading. I guess that's what I get. In my defence, that did sound like something Pa_Pat would say.;) He and I were talking about this thread about an hour before I saw your response.
Were in PA are you from?

With some fresh park or Gunkote, she'd be a real beauty queen.
That barrel vice from PA Patriot is awesome. I got one from him too.

Thanks dmk0210, I am planning on doing the Guncoat thing once I get a US compliant faux Imbel flash hider on it.
