Really nice rifle for the money. I paid $229.99 plus $9 shipping plus $30 transfer fee. Just like my Saiga .410, neat rifle. Got it from CDNN. I don't much like the light weight buttstock compared to the weight up front but I aint complaining. The trigger isn't what I'd call match quality either but neither are 99.99% of my other rifles including AKs. It's got a very nice finish and lots of nice Izhevsk arsenal marks, came with inspection certificate and date of birth which was Dec 30, 2002.

I also ordered 2 extra mags from a different place because CDNN is out of them. They're wrapped up so I didn't take a pic of them. I also got a cheap grey web sling from CDNN for $2.99.

Mag capacity is 8 rounds.

Sights only marked out to 300 meters.

Here's some pics. This is alot of rifle for the money. I'm really happy with it. When they get some .223 back in stock I think I'll order one.

arsenal marks. I also took one of the classic arrow in triangle but it came out worse than this one. Oh well. You can kind of see them.

That's a splotch of oil on the buttstock

last one, notice the white on sights for three settings. The sight goes higher though just like an AK sight its just not marked.

Anyone looking for an inexpensive reliable AK action .308 semi can't go wrong with this. It has a side rail scope mount as well.

Nice rifle Red Star. Noticed you got the 16" version. Are you planning to convert it, or leave it as is?

I love my 7.62 that I converted and would love to get the 308 in the 20" version for a Dragunov style conversion.

Ahhh . . . so many nice weapons and so few dollars! I've seen these on other dealers tables and they are very well made from all appearances. I just wonder why they did 8 rounds when they could have done 10?

No Wik I think I'm going to leave it the way it is. I like collecting AK variants and leaving it as is is preferrable to me. I already have alot of regular AK's. I have a VEPR .308 as well.

Yeah if the mags wearn't so expensive I would investigate if I could chop off some of the bottom follower stop to get the extra two rounds in there. You can do that with five round single stack AK mags and make them hold 9 or ten rounds.

That actually looks better than I imagined with the PC stock!
That isn't a .308 is it???
Where'd you get it for $229 if it's the .308?

Never mind, I really should learn to read everything before I post :o

good deal,Now you need to do some work on her into a pistol grip version!

Very nice looking carbine Redstar, congrats. It has the RPK type receiver to withstand the pressure and recoil of .308. It sure looks great! Dont' you wish we didn't have the agreement with Russia about banning importation of military weapons? At least SAIGA was exempt, but it coudl be so much better.

It looks cool. Why don't they make it with a pistol grip?

Trying to keep the anti's happy I guess. They should be legal to convert to PG considering the low capacity status, only one mag works in these as is. As an example the wasr10 single stacks in PG configuaration, they are importable like that and 100% foreign parts.

Maybe I will down the road but with the mag status I wouldn't want to convert the mag well cause then you get into US parts counts etc, and that would jack up the cost for essentially the same rifle. In all honesty I like the longer pull the way it is. I'm thinking about putting my Russian PSO scope on here and scoped PG rifles are kind of short IMO. I don't need a project AK that will jack up my cost in this rifle either. I mean look at this rifle vs an SKS say. I'd take this rifle over an SKS any day of the week although they are both fine rifles and you all know I love SKS rifles.

1POM- LMAO!

Shuetz, here's a good review of the rifle by the NRA. They have sample groups posted at the bottom, those results are with a scope. http://www.nrahq.org/publications/tar/dopebag/db8.asp

Mark Krebs converts these to RPK's that accept Galil mags. Now that would be the type of conversion I wouldn't mind doing (having done). :D

If you look in Gen weapons over at AK net for this same thread mrridick has some pictures of his converted Saigas as well.

D'OH!!

Can't do an RPK on a carbine you need the 20 inch barrel.
