I had to remove the safety on my Norinco. The thing was worse than useless. The recoil would move the lever, and I would be standing there wondering why nothing happened when I pulled the trigger. Well the safeties off, but now I have a big ugly hole on the side of my pistol. Has anyone found easy way of plugging this hole? I'm considering putting the safety back on, and fixing it in place, but would just love to get rid of it. I dont want to weld or solder the frame, and I'm afraid putties or glues, would work loose, over time. Any ideas?

Is there some butchery afoot ?

Some defect of the aforementioned hole?

If not and the lever is to blame you can remove the offending lever and slightly bend it so that it applies more pressure to the receiver and stays put.

A picture would be interesting.

Definitely butchery, the safety is an add-on put there so it could be imported. I don't mind the the one on the Poles, I've got two, and have never had trouble with the safety on either one. The safety on the Poles, is behind the trigger, and looks professionally done. The one on the Norinco is a cobbled on, hunk-of-junk, located behind the left grip. Its a cast metal part so theres no way of bending, and there aren't any springs to tighten either. It fits in a 1/4" hole with ears cut on each side of the hole. The ear on one side of the safety, keeps the hammer from falling when its engaged. The only things that hold the safety in place, are two cheap looking flathead screws, that keep it from lining up with the earholes.

I would love to show you a picture, but I don't have the technology. :D

If you can't take a picture is there some place on the web with a similar picture ?

This sounds unlike anuthing that I've come accross on a Norinco.

Both pistols are marked "Made in China Norinco".
Notice the B-west imported model "TOK 213" on the bottom. It has a safety that when pushed back it is on safety. It only has one screw to stop the safety movement as the grips stop the movement the other way.
The Sportarms imported "model 213" on top the safety is pushed foreword to put it on safety. I bought it used and one of the screws that act as a safety stop was missing already.
The pistols are the same except for the markings, shape of the safety, grips, magazine base plates, and slide serations.

Here is a pic of the model 213 with the safety removed. Notice the spring loaded ball in the safety that engages the safeties on/off detents in the frame. My pistol has a very positive lock up when the ball hits the detent.
Is this missing from you pistol and causing the safety not to function correctly?

bubba the basement "gunsmith" would say, "hell, git yer self some of that thar J-B weld, and go to town" .......:D

unless you want to spend more money then the gun is worth, you can have a gunsmith weld up the holes, then smooth it out, and reblue the pistol........that the only solution I see that would work........however I would sugguest you just live with it......it's the best solution considering, the gun is real not worth all that to begin with, unless you got money to burn.

Weevil,
Does your pistol's safety have the spring and ball in it or is it missing?
