What ammo do you prefer ?
In my Vepr II, Barnaul does not have the energy to to cycle the action to the rear reliably.
In Mili surplus ammo, I prefer the M193 and all (that I've tried) of it shoots well..
So fair the few brands of civilian 223 I've tried work real good also..

For blasting I like Barnaul 55 gr. For 1" groups at 100 yards I like good domestic 52 gr. hollow point.

Mine won't cycle with 55 gr..
Hmmm, sounds as if there's a lot of tolerance in Vepr recoil springs...

HDR.....mine works great. Funny thing though, the 55 gr. Barnaul doesn't like about 1 out of 3 Bulgie waffle 5.56 mags where the 52 gr. hollow point works in all of them. The Barnaul likes to stove pipe in some waffles.......no problem with the original Robarms mag.

I don't remember which mags, it was last year or the year before.. I do have 5 Bulgie waffles.
When I have a problem with only one brand, I'm prone to back away, especially if there is no problems with other brands..
What a Vepr can do with domestic ammo is sweet...

I have only tried three types. I shot up some South African 300 rd. battle packs and had some feed trouble with a few rounds out of one of the three packs I bought. I'll steer clear of the stuff from here on out. I have shot about 20 rounds of Winchester varmint loads which seemed to shoot very well and fairly accurate considering the Kobra sight with no magnification. My favorite so far has been Sellier & Bellot. It seems to hold a decent group, again I've never shot it using a scope, has fed great through almost 1000rds. and is failry cheap through www.centerfiresystems.com

I get good accuracy with my Vepr II and the South African battle packs: 1-3/4" group at 100yds with iron sights. I do have some occasional feeding problems, but it may be the magazines. Since I bought much more than three battle packs, I'll be shooting this ammo for a while. I also have some IMI M193 and M855 that I shoot sparingly.
Any recommendations for competive shooting ammo?

1 3/4" groups with iron sights on your V2? Incredible eyes bro! My front blade covers the paper at 100yds. I can't get near that tight with the Kobra red dot even. Impressive shooting!

Thanks BunnMan! As for my incredible eyes, they were extremely tired at the time. I was aiming at a 2" blaze orange dot centered on a 3" bullseye. For the record, it was a three shot group.
I'm an old rimfire target shooter and was shooting my Vepr II in the same manner. I did some work on the FCG, smoothing out the contact points of the hammer, trigger and disconnector. At the time, I replaced the disconnector spring with a lighter Wolff spring from Power Custom. (I have since put the original spring back in the FCG; the Wolff spring was shorter and I was concerned about the disconnector failing to function properly.)
I hope to try out my VOMZ/Pilad 4x32L scope on the 100, 200 and 300 yard ranges this weekend; hopefully my accuracy will improve. I have lots of other stuff to try out, such as new Bulgie waffles, a tuned up P226, and possibly a Vepr K .223, if it arrives by Sat.
Happy shooting!
Ian

Need somebody to help you carry all of that from the car to the bench :bye:? If you were closer to me I'd invite you to the gun club, looks like you have a great weekend ahead, especially if the K arrives. I pray the weather holds out for you...forecast aint so great here. Looks like I'll be calling turkeys in the rain Staurday! Kids are kind of disappointed too as I was planning on taking the dirt bike and riding them around the mountain after hunting but that'll have to wait for dryer times. Sure don't want to get caught in a tent in a two day downpour with three little girls and a wife that aint much of the outdoor trooper anymore :sadwave
