I've been considering it. Krebs wants a couple of surplus mags sent along to insure proper a fit - which I can appreciate and understand.
They also do not recommend any aftermarket mags - also understandable, but I really would like to experiment with some 30 rounders. I bought a couple of custom 30 rounders for my
G-3 and they work like a champ!
So, if anyone has had the conversion done, have you played with the 30 aftermarket mags after the original fitting?

Better get the muzzle brake as well if you are planning on putting 30 rounds through that puppy in rapid order.

Why?
Its fun to rapid fire a 7.62N and hit gongs....
One of my favorites is keeping a can from rolling down the berm, too slow and its off the berm, too fast and you knock it over the top.
AK's and AR's are best at the game, FAL will pop the can over the top too easily..

The .308 VEPRII has pretty good muzzle flip. Not that terrible a kick, but the muzzle certainly does flip. Perhaps its the near inline nature of the stock.
If you have fired this rifle in rapid fire mode I am surprised you didn't feel like you were wasting time getting the barrel back down on target.

After market M14 mags are junk ! There is a major difference between USGI and aftermarket M14 magazines. Even the aftermarket 30 round M14 mags sometimes fall out of a M1A when
fully loaded.
The top rear of a USGI M14 magazine has a small 1/8" thick, 7/16" wide, 7/8" high, rectangular piece of steel spot welded in 6 spots to the mag body, this is the lock up to the mag catch in the rifle.
Aftermarket M14 magazines have no steel welded onto the magazine for lock up with the mag catch in the rifle, they just have a hole where a piece of the magazine body is pressed outside of the magazine, as the sole means by which it is held in the mag catch in the rifle. This bent out piece of metal will bend back in from the loaded weight. Cheap ! They could not even bother to just tac weld on a small piece of steel as originally done.
This is why Krebs only wants USGI M14 magazines for the conversion, even the Chinese M14 magazines are an exact copy in every detail to USGI M14 mags, they are excellent quality. But not aftermarket US made M14 magazine, they are junk !
