WTF! How long does it take to get a GOD D@MN rifle from this company anyway! Since I placed my order almost three months ago, its now May, I have purchased an SAR-1 and a DSA STG58 and I really like them both and have already added all kinds of crap to them like mounts, optics, extra mags, ammo, you name it. I have spent a ton of dough on these two rifles and now I dont think I want to spend another $450 on a VEPR K, plus ship and dealer fee. Screw it. If these dumb things are not even in the country yet does anyone besides GOD know when they will be. If I dont hear anything soon about the status of these things I am gonna cancel my order and go spend my money on something else. Local shop has a AR-180B for $525.00 or maybe I'll wait and get a M1a. Oh well my patience has long since departed just like the ROBARM forum.

Von,
From what I gather three months isn't bad for Robamrs. I waited from Dec 13, 2001 until the end of April 2002 ( a little over four months) to get mine. I really wouldn't have minded the wait if they would have been honest about it in the first place. Did they keep telling you "just another week or so" everytime you asked?

Hey, I don't blame you for being pissed. ROBARMS is one of the best companies I've ever dealt with but they should be able to give you better info, etc. But if you can just hang in there you will NOT regret waiting for this rifle; it is in a class by itself. No flame intended but go play with the other great toys you just purchased and try to forget about the VEPR for a while. I have a VEPR K so it's easy for me to say chill but...
As far as your DSA STG58, how do you like it, what did it cost, etc.? A battle .308 is third on my list of new purchases and DSA is right at the top. People keep telling me about the CHEAP CETME, but I've heard the quality can be a crap-shoot. I may even go for a VEPR .308; wonder how the wait is on them. Maybe if I order it now I'll have the money by the time it comes in...
Take care and try to wait a little longer if you can for this great gun!

I 've waited 6-8 months for my VEPR's........no regrets.
Man, I really lucked out when I got mine. I saw someone shooting one at the range on a Saturday in Apr '02, then picked up a Vepr II .223 at a local gun store the following Thursday. I also recently bought a Vepr K .223 through this forum that is enroute today :D
I've also been eyeing the $300 CETMEs from Century, but as jAK-47 points out, they're a crap shoot and I'm not into major repairs. I think I'll be patient for a Super Vepr, if and when they become available. They're highly accurate, better than the CETMEs, and cheaper than the M1As.

jAK47, I Love the STG58. I paid $924 out the door. Its my second FAL. May first was a SA58 carbine. I call it the "headache machine". It runs great but after about 200 rounds my head feels like its going to come apart. Its really freakin loud, uncomfortably so. The STG is really a joy to shoot. The only other .308 rifle that is more pleasant to shoot is an M1A.
Stay clear of CETME. I have handled many of them and never bought one. They are inexpensive and some people say they shoot ok but they just dont do anything for me. I would prefer a HK91 or a Special Weapons clone before I got a CETME.
I am going to wait as long as it takes to get my VEPR K. I will wait as long as I have to out of spite. When I get it I can say I waited just as long as anyone else. It sounds like waiting for a VEPR to arrive is just part of the overall VEPR experience and I dont want to cheat myself out that. Im sure it will be a great rifle and I look forward to shooting it......Someday. Hell I got plenty of stuff to keep me busy until then.

Good advice on the .308. STG is high on my list and under $1000 is a very good price from what I've seen. Sounds like you could load blanks in the SA58 and use it for house protection! I can just see the BG lineup now at the police station. All suspects step forward please! The one who can't hear the cop's instructions is the BG.:D I think I'll steer clear of the CETME.
Hey, if you don't like the VEPR when it arrives you could make a small profit selling it to someone who wants one RIGHT NOW! I thought about that myself when I toyed with the idea of getting a 103 (less weight).

I had the same idea about maybe selling the VEPR once I get it. I got a SAR-1 that I put some OD green KVAR stock set on along with a Kobra sight. It shoots great and was not very expensive. I may keep the VEPR and sell the SAR or just keep them both and beat the hell out of the SAR while keeping the VEPR in the safe.
I have to tell you jAK47 that I think my STG is every bit as nice and as accurate as my Springfield M1a "loaded" and the mags for the FAL are about 8 bucks each rather than 60 for niw GI M1a mags. I think I have about 10 or 12 FAL mags now and only 2 for my M1a.
You mentioned the weight of the VEPR. That seems to be a common concern. I like heavy. Heavy is good. Heavy means its not gonna move and is going to hold together. Some guys talk about the weight factor as if their lives hang in the balance. I really doubt if anyone is going to be taking any of these things into combat with them any time soon. It might suck moving it from your vehicle to the bench at the range but thats it. How many out there are doing any LRRP's in downtown yourtown anyway. Just my two cents.

You're absolutely right about the chances of any of us using our rifle in a CQB situation. Although I take guns very seriiously I'm still a real kid at heart. When I get a new toy I walk through the house pretending to "clear" it of BGs; of course it's not loaded- LOL.
The reason weight concerns me is there's a great gun club about an hour from me and they do some really neat CQB stuff; it's like IDPA with assault rifles. In order to be competitive against lightweight AR-15's it would be nice to have an AK at 6.5 pounds instead of 9. Some scenarios are in a fake house and you need to swing your weapon from side-to-side to engage targets. The event is timed so... The AR's would have an advantage - except when they jam!!!!!
I figure that a good tactical sling will really help me to ignore the weight of the VEPR. CQB Solutions does not make a tactical sling for the VEPR:mad: Anyone know a good place to get a sling for the VEPR that "works" like a CQB Solutions'?
Man, that STG is starting to stick in my head. $8 for a mag?? And I don't have to pay $150 to convert the rifle to 20 rounds? Ohhhh....:p And that gun club may have .308 events too... Do you get used to that carry handle or can you shave it off? Also, what are the specs on the STG - weight, length, etc. The site is being fixed right now...
Thanks,

I can see your point now about weight, especially in a 3 gun match or some similar situation. I thought I was the only one who "cleared" the house when nobody was home but me.
You should try a HK sling. The kind that comes with the HK94,91,93. I put one on my SAR-1 today and it works great. The sling is a green color and I thought it would look good with the OD furniture on the rifle. I think you can get them online for under $20.
I take the carry handle off of my FAL's when I add optics. DSA and Tapco sell a carry handle spacer. You put it where the carry handle went and now that little space is all filled up. It looks really good. If you didnt know anything about the FAL and saw it you would think that it is just part of the gun. They cost about 2 bucks. I get one for each rifle.
As far as the specs go I was just going to copy it from DSA but like you said it Tango Uniform this evening. This is out of a Janes infantry Weapons I have:
Type: Self Loading Rifle
System of Operation: Gas
Caliber: 7.62mm NATO
Capacity: 20 round box magazine
Sights, front: Elevation adjustable front post
Sights, rear, fully adjustable aperture
Length: OAL 43", Barrel 21"
Weight: 10.8 lbs

"I thought I was the only one who "cleared" the house when nobody was home but me."
Why do you think I have to keep replacing my pets? Poor old Fido just jumped out at the wrong time; in the dark it looked like he was wearing a mask - not my fault.
Thanks for the specs on the FN/FAL. I like that you can take off the handle without ruining the looks. I wonder if the CQB Solutions people make a tactical sling for the STG. Probably...
I don't just want a simple sling for the VEPR - it has to be a tactical sling like CQB Solutions has at: http://cqbsolutions.com/carryoptions.htm Looks like a FN/FAL rifle in the pics??
What kind of scope do you like on the STG or any FN/FAL? Some people stick with a Kobra but I think you need a scope that brings things "up close and personal" for a .308. The Kobra's fine for the AK. A lot of people like the PSO for the Russian .308s. I'd like a 6-24X40 or something along those lines; then again, I know next to nothing about scopes.
I think I'll wait until I can afford the STG so I get a good one. The CETME is a good gun for the money but I don't think I'd be happy. Once I have my new KT .380 and a .308 battle rifle (probably the STG) I want another AK like the 103. And finally, once I get the scopes, etc. for the new toys, I am going to go back and look at Krebs' Krinkov in 7.62X39. The recoil may be harsh but an AK at 5.5 pounds is very interesting to me. I wouldn't want to go to the .223 or the 5.45 for personal reasons.
Thanks,

As far as optics goes I have a Bushnell 3200 elite 10x40 mil dot on my Carbine. It works great and has the target turrets on it. I dont think a battle rifle needs anything more than a 10x. Beyond 12x into the 24x range I think is over kill. Those kind of optics belong on rifles that have much more long range accuracy like Remington 700's and family and M1a's and high end tactical rigs.
I have been thinking about adding a IOR Valdada Super M2 to the STG. The scopes from IOR as about as tough as a bag of hammers and have fantasitc quaility glass and workmanship. The M1 and M2 line start at about $300 and the Super M2 goes for about $500. I know it sounds like a lot but the quality is top notch. I was kicking around the idea of using a Kahles scope, its Austrian and would tie in nicely with the STG. They are equally as good IOR and just as pricey.
I have mixed feelings about the Kobra. Its cool and all but I think I would have been better off using a weaver mount from KVAR mated with a Tasco Propoint I have in my drawer. The KOBRA is solid and bulk, its conscript proof. I do like the ability to change the reticle even though I only use the dot when I shoot it. I hear mixed things about PSO scopes. I hear they tend to me kinda yellow in color because the glass is not of highest quality. They are authentic, thats why I went with the KOBRA. That hammer finish on them is a turn off for me. I still cant decide about them yet.

Practice shooting and train the mind.
Walk thru's are cool, but sometimes its good to let them come to you..
Two years ago, I bought a Vepr II in 5.56.. Got it in two weeks. Might be the post 9/11 import world..

I have one of those cloverleafing FAL's myself.

I waited a while to get mine, and it's the sweetest gun I own. Just be patient. It's worth the wait.

I agree with GlockBoy. The wait will be worth it. In Robarms defense, the Russians have not quite mastered "just in time" delivery.

I know its really frustrating to deal w/RobArms "one more week" customer litany, but trust me, its more than worth the wait. This same problem seems to affect other vendors who sell Russian products (scopes, etc). As someone else said, the Russkies haven't heard of JIT supply management.
I love my VEPR K in .223! I also have three AR's but find the VEPR more consistently reliable. Its a GREAT gun, albeit muzzle heavy!
Try to forget its on order for awhile and enjoy it when it arrives...:D

jak 47,
On the DSA FAL rifles, you have the choice of receiver type (I, II or III). It is my understanding that on the type I receiver, you have the option of the carry handle, or no cut on the receiver at all. Some think that adding the cut to accomodate the handle acutally weakens the receiver.
One thing about the DSA receivers is that they heat treat the entire thing, not just the connection point between the receiver and barrel. They have a tremendous Rockwell measurement on the hardness for their receivers.
I am looking at acquiring one for my own collection. I don't think you can go wrong with the DSA FAL.

Thanks very much. I wasn't sure what the options were and if you had to have the handle. Personally, I don't like it but do understand the possible utility of it.
We'll have to post range results if we get one.

You really can't go wrong with a DSA FAL. I would take it over any of my rifles any day.

I have of the above and mouted a bushnell 3x9 sportview with turrets. The 30-30 reticle works fair.
Hunters seem to hit moving deer and deer move fast. ;)
Scope is mounted over the center of the bore and low..

That looks like the Robarm scope mount. I have heard its a good one but requires some extensive tweaking. I have a k-var mount waiting for the elusive VEPR K. It locks solid to my SAR-1 and I think it should work well on the VEPR. I had planned on adding my Bushnell 3200 mild dot to it but I recently put that on my FAL. I am now in scope limbo. I cant decide if I want a dot scope, I have an extra Tasco Pro point, or if I want to add a low power scope to it. I like the looks and feel of the IOR M-2. They are tough as hell and have great glass. Problem is I dont want to spend another $300 on optics for a $500 rifle.
