I posted this over on the Krink board but it is a little slow over there, so I came here.
O.K., I readily admit that I am an AK rookie, so be gentle with me.
I have ordered an AKS-74S 7.62x39mm Bulgarian Krink kit (backordered) from K-Var.
Now I need a host firearm (I am going to make this in semi-auto).
I want to have the sidefolder work so I am looking for a pre-ban.
I have been told to get a fixed stock model to simplify replacing the old fixed stock with the new sidefolder assembly.
Where my information diverses is in regards to which receiver I will need - milled or stamped? I have been told that all 7.62mm Krinks were made on the heavier milled receiver. Others have told me emphatically that the Krinks were designed around the stamped receiver and the parts kit will work with them best and that it will require much more labor and money to make a milled receiver work.
Can someone, who knows for sure, please simply tell me which to get so that I can start looking for the host gun.
Thanks.

Hey Mario,
The kit that you have oredered is a generic one that K-var is selling to the public. I say generic because The Bulgarians dont make a 7.62 krink with an ak-74 style folding stock.
All Bulgarian 7.62 krinks are made on a milled receiver, but some countries have made them on a stamped one, like Yugoslavia.
The Bulgarian 7.62 krink comes in two versions both on a milled receiver. The older version is with an under-folding stock and the newer is with a galil style side-folding stock (these kits have not been imported in to the U.S.)
If you want your krink to have a side folder and dont care much about how auithenic it is then your best bet is to buy a pre-ban stamped Norinco. Buy the fixed stock version for a host gun. Then you will have a couple of choices for a side folder.
1. The gunsmith could install you the ak-74 side-folding stock that comes with the kit. This requires altering the receiver and drilling holes in it. This means that is you want to go to a fixed wooden stock you would not be able to.
2. Buy either a Romanian or East German side-folder. These install without any modifications to your receiver and you can go back to your old fixed wooden stock if you want.
3. Buy a Ace U.S. made side-folder, it looks like a Galil stock. These require not modifications to your receiver.
If you have any more questions or need some pics to help you out please let us know.

I was aware that the original Bulgarian 7.62mm milled Krinkov was an underfolder. I really like the side folder though. The Galil stock, while high quality, just isn't Krink-ish enough in my mind.
I've never been much of an AK affectionado but I do like the milled receiver guns.
I'd like to get all the information I can so if you want to post pics and info, or e-mail it to me, I would appreciate it.

Mario,
Here is a pic of the newest Bulgarian milled receiver krink, the one with the Galil style side-folder.

If you choose to go with a pre-ban milled receiver your only choice will be to buy a Polytech Legend. They run between 1000-1200. These are Chinese pre-ban milled receiver ak's and are rarer than stamped receiver Chinese guns.
One thing to consider is using a Bulgarian milled receiver, it will come ouot cheaper like that. They are post-ban and you wont be able to fold the stock BUT if the assault weapon ban sun-sets you could have the folder fold.
The krink side folder stock could be attached to a milled receicer but will require some good work.
Here is one that Troy @ Inrange did, Bulgarian receiver

Let me know if you change your mind and want info for a stamped receiver.
