I read someplace this ammo blew a CZ-52 apart. Now, I have a bunch of this ammo and wondered if it was a mere "legend" or if this stuff is bad jo-jo? BTW, it will be used in a Polish Tok. Does anyone know or actually have a Tok blow up because of this ammo?
Thanks

I am doing a test on some ammo with 54 head stamp. The bad ammo has 52 head stamp.

I've fired quite a few and about 45% of casings show minor splits.

It is Bulgy in pink paper and the seller is aware of the bad ammo. I have been assured this ammo is ok (yeah). He sez he has had no reports of kabooms.

I plan on running some through a chrono this w/e if I can get one.

I personally (at this time) think the brass is simply brittle. I also am not afraid of it and (so far) would not hesitate to fire the rest of it. It does shoot good in my CZ52 for plinking.

More on this later.

if you're going to be using any surplus ammo in a tokerev.....I would serious think twice about doing that. the majority of surplus 7.62x25 is machine gun ammo, and is loaded on the 'hot"side, a tokerev won't be able to handle the the chamber pressure, the slide on a tokerev isn't that thick, and it isn't excatly a beefy handgun. don't take the word of the vendor at the gun shows, when he tells you it's ok to fire it.....he's there to sell the product.

can't tell you if my tokerev will blow up using surplus ammo.........I'm not going to take that chance....I don't want to use my medical insurance for something like that. I only fire new production 7.62 ammo out of my tokerev, that is loaded for handguns.

I've posted this in several forums and threads. It's as good as I can do. Century's special bulgy sale.

Sunny, 70 degrees 1730 hrs. Century 7.62x25 fired from a CZ52. Chrony F1. 54 head stamp. Random pulls from the tin can it came in. Berden primed. Pink wrapper.
High: 1505
Low: 1435
Average: 1479.6 fps.

No excessive loads...60% developed small splits at neck...No excessive smoke or any thing to scare me (whew). No misfires or any other problems.

My first time with a chronograph, but I think I got it right.
Although the splits concerned me, I've had a lot of old, brittle brass do this and it hurt nothing.

Would I buy more? Sure. It's good for plinking and blasting. There's better out there, but for the price...ok.

FWIW: I fired this ammo from four different CZ52s and all ejected split brass. Ammo I had prior to this had NO splits.

The only experience I've had, with hot ammo, was some stuff I got at a gunshow, that was on stripper clips. I fired it in a Polish Tok, and a CZ-52. No problems with either, but you could tell from the kick, that its some "really" hot stuff. I fired one box, and have three left, but don't have the nerve, to try anymore of the stuff.
I've heard about the Bulgy, in the pink wrapper, but haven't seen any.

I have been shooting ammo todaythat is as hot as I can load it, and still have the primer hold together.

I have been shooting a Chineese Tokarev parts; TU-90 upper and 213 lower [9mm magazine] in an experiment to see if I could get it to jam.

I have blown two CZ52s to pieces with much wimpier overloads.

158 gr .357" lead semi wad cutter hard cast with lube band bullets, 1.160" overall cartridge length, Starline 9mm supercomp brass:

10 gr Power Pistol, severe recoil
10 gr 800X, severe recoil
8 gr 3N37, seating squished bullet, wimpy, primer leaked
LONGSHOT and Blue Dot tommorrow

I hope you're not holding these guns in your hand, when your shooting them, or at least wearing a really big leather glove. :D

I do agree with you that Toks, are better than CZ-52s, but have never went to such extremes to prove it. Be careful, bro, you're playing with fire. Don't let your experiments, cost you a few body parts. Does sound like fun though, I'd love to watch you blow-up a few of "your" guns, I bet they make one helluva "KA-BOOM"! :D

Today with 158 gr and 1.169"
I got the primer to fall out leaving a BIG primer pocket all black with:
9 gr HS-6
9 gr 3N37
and I shot LONSHOT that was so compressed that the bullet squished out and barely squezed in the throat.

I think the recoil winners are still 800X and Power Pistol.

I am hand holding Tokarevs for incremental overloads. I were shooting a case full of AA#5 and a 158 gr bullet, I would want to be a mile away, but I feel safe in incremental work ups with Tokarevs or any other semi auto I have tested [except CZ52s].
