gunshop called me today.
"your gun has arrived... and it's really pretty." :D

i picked it up and spent 2 hours disassembling, cleaning, assembling, holding it, looking at it, disassembling, assembling, .... and so on...

i even took my kahles scope from my 98k and mounted it, just to see how it looks.... and the result is ...um... very tactical :D

i am happy!!! maybe i get to shoot it tomorrow...

I wonder if that means that the weapons are in the country now?
Do you know who your dealer get your VEPR from? You are one lucky SOB. I hope this means good news for the rest of us. Has anyone heard from or been in contact with spetznatzboy? I wonder if he watches this forum now that the ROBARM forum us Tango Uniform.
Here is to hoping.

Congrats on your new addiction! VEPRs are a tough habit to break :D

What caliber and model did you order? I heard that the VEPR K 7.62x39 were due in around now. The Kahles scope sounds cool. What model is it and what mount are you using?

Have fun!
Ian

Folks, I believe that Hamburger is a resident of Hamburg...Germany! I wouldn't count on his dealer being able to sell you a VEPR any time soon...:D

Hamburger, please post pictures – before and after the stock conversion, if possible!

I emailed Impact guns and to my suprise I got a reply a few hours later. Dave Vogel of Impact guns said they have got a few rifles in from Robarms and that they have been sent out already in the order they were received. I was not one of those.:(

thanks for the congrats.... :)

i got my vepr (7,62x39, 20"barrel) from the german distributor. but they had expected some difficulties with the export license in russia, and they told me not to expect the gun to arrive before the end of the month (may).
and now it's here!

so MAYBE that means that the shipment for robarm is on its way, too.... ?

the scope is a kahles helia L 2,2-9x42, made in austria. the mont came with the gun, it has 2 30mm rings and is attached to the siderails. it doesnt have a weaver rail it is a very low mount, 42mm scopes seem to be the max diameter.

the scope belongs to my 98k... i just mounted it because it looks so cool.
i want a IOR valdada tactical scope for the vepr. i chose the 2,5-10x42 illuminated scope... my father is currently travelling romania and i gave him a shopping list :D
i hope those scopes are easily available there. and of course i hope they are cheaper... couldn't afford the u.s. price (795$ i think...).

the rifle has the wood stock (turkish walnut). it feels nice, but i want to change the look for something more 'modern'...

i keep you updated! (with pics)

Interesting comment about the low recoil – does yours have the muzzle brake on it? I've decided that mine doesn't need one. The gun is heavy enough that recoil isn't a problem without it, and the large buttstock helps distribute the shock over a large area of your shoulder. Very comfortable to shoot.

I'm curious about 7.62 x 39 ammunition availability in Germany – Is the cheap Russian ammo popular, or do most people prefer the more expensive (locally produced) brands?

no muzzle brakes in germany... they used to be banned, and it's not quite clear whether they are legal with the new gun laws we have since april 1st.
i think the low recoil is because
- i have the wooden thumbhole stock and a long barrel, the gun is quite heavy.
- i usually shoot 8x57 or 7,5x55....

but it's a nice recoil... a soft push, and the gun rises only 2 or 3 inches...

not the 'BANG...OUCH' i am used to from my mauser.

can't really compare it with the 223 since the only 223 i ever shot was a very heavy olympic arms ar15 with a bull barrel (no recoil at all).

about the ammo:

i just got a case of south african surplus ammo, i paid 13 eurocent per round (that's about 0,15 $). that is the cheapest we can get and it's not always available... nice stuff: clean, hot load, and brass cased.

russian surplus ammo (steel casing) is about 20 eurocent/round.

then we have 'hansen' ammo. german name but probably produced in eastern europe. soft tip bullet, brass case, about 30 eurocent/round.

and we can get LAPUA ammo, this is supposed to be match grade, and very expensive... 60 eurocent...
i would use this only for competitions.

223 and 308win are much easier to get, but i wanted the original caliber. i hope the availability of 7,62x39 will be better in the future... veprs are a best-seller here so there's an increasing demand.

Well, that make no less sense than the American ban against flash hiders! I assume the ban on muzzle brakes was because they made the rifle look "evil"?

I have shot some south african 7.62x39 ammo and the recoil was more than any other ammo in the same caliber . Does anybody now the numbers for this stuff ?

exactly....

§37 of our old gun laws was called the "appearance article". it banned semiauto weapons that 'looked like fullauto war weapons' .... black stocks, pistol grips, and long mags were yakiyaki....
look at the grey HK SL8.... :p
