I am picking up my .308 Vepr Saturday . I do plan on using the rifle for deer hunting - I have previously taken deer with MAK-91 and Mini-30 , but feel the need for the additional power of .308 .I currently use a Ruger Compact in .308 but like to go the "politically incorrect" route again .
The shots will be out to 150 yards at the most . What scope should I get ? I have looked at some Russian POSP's on the net .
I am leaning toward the 6x42 model . They seem to be somewhat on the heavy side . Any other options ? Is Kalinka Optics still in business ? Theyr web site is not working too well .

You can't beat this one for price and function. And no, they aren't too heavy. The lighted reticle is helpful. Don't sweat the fact that the integral mount is offset to the left. It doesn't make much difference AND you can still use the iron sights with the scope in place.

According to Tantal the 6 X 42 PSOP even though desgned for the 7.62 X 54R is very closely regulated to the .308 round.
I have one on my .308 Vepr and have not had any trouble with it at all other than having to adjust the locking lever once in a while.

I was able to pick up the rifle today - sweet . Well worth the extra money over the Saiga . It is the unmodified t-hole stock gun .
What about the locking lever ? Does it shoot loose ?

Mine came loose and had to be readjusted the first 2 trips to the range. After the third adjustment i've not had any more trouble with it. The lever takes approx. 1 min to adjust after reading the instructions on Tantals websight. You might find the need for a cheek pad on the Vepr in order to get a good line of sight on the scope. For the moment I just velcrowed a small pad onto the stock. I'm thinking of modifiying one of the cheek rest from the Choate Dragunov style stocks to fit the Vepr stock.
