Picked up the .308 Vepr today . The rifles previous owner had the stock refinished with ebony stain . The gun appears to be unfired and new. I paid $500.00 . This is much more gun than my .308 16" Saiga - I don't think I will go ahead with the p-grip conversion on the Saiga . The Veprs metal finish is beutiful .
The gun is dated 1998 and was imported by ZDF Import/Export, Inc. According to the owner manual it should have come with a scope mount- I did't get that .

That is too bad about the stock. Mine has a dark finish on the walnut stock and has some very nice figure/grain in it.
When I ordered my VEPR the first year they were imported you could only get them directly from ZDF. They came with a scope mount, black leather sling, cleaning kit, cleaning rod, 5rd and 10rd mag,and manual. Later the scope mount was a accessory and cost extra.
The Pilad VOMZ 4x32 scope was imported by ZDF for the VEPR rifles. It has the 1000m range finder recticule and adjustment knobs under the caps like this scope. It has a bullet drop compensator like this scope.

It was $99 from ZDF.

Just got back from the range . I like the .308 Vepr a lot . One inch 5 shot groups at 50 yards . I was using Winchester 150 grain Power Point ammo . I will have to get a scope before a more formal shooting session at 100 yards .
I have oficially given up on the 16"Saiga .308 conversion , the only reason for conversion was the crappy trigger. The RSA trigger will now go into the SAR-1 .
I will need to look around for a wood Vepr take-off stock - any ideas ? Maybe Robinson ?
Does anybody know how the butt pad is attached to the stock ?

vit,
I know what you mean about terminating the saiga project, Vepr's are sweet.....

Yeah...the Saiga conversion . By the time I would have it done it would cost same as Vepr and still be only a Saiga . Not sure what to do with the Saiga- keep it or get rid of it . Stock trigger sucks and the thing kicks like a mule . I could probably hang on to it and sell it a few years later for about $500.00:p

vit, that's a good question. The VEPR-II plastic stock is one of the items Robarms installs after they import 'em – which means that either they import 'em with no stock installed, or they're sitting on a bunch of wood take-offs!

Sure wouldn't hurt to give Robarms a call and ask.
