Has anyone completed a rifle with the most recent Global PMKMS kits? I have two kits myself, just looking for some completed photos and reviews of the finished product.
Thanks
Still working on my wz. 88 Tantal. Didn't even touch my PMKMS kit yet.....:(

I would like to pick up a tantal kit myself, but I feel I should probably finish a couple of the kits I already have.
I have 2 PMKMS kits. I hope to do on with a fixed folder and the other with a polish buttstock. Just looking for some pics of either completed.

Who has the Tantal kits for sale?

I do not think anyone has them for sale now. I believe Global used to be the ones sell them. To get one now your best bet would be gunbroker or sturmgewehr.
If they were still plentiful I would already have one :D It's not important enough to me to pay the inflated prices they are likely selling for now.

it will be about 2 more weeks or so before I get my stuff back.
Jayson is building 4 for me.
2 for me, and the other 2 are for other people. I just sent them off as a group build. I got a GREAT price.
All of them are gonna be standard stock guns.
One of mine will have the factory polish furniture, a factory polish buttstock($50 plus shipping) and a factory polish pistol grip.
The other one is gonna have hungarian blonde wood and either a US made grip, or a romainian bakelite grip.
Now, I can tell you how the other two will look.
One will have the factory polish handguards, polish PG, and a east german laminated buttstock.
The other will have all polish furniture, I would guess, knowing the owner, it is ALL NEW.

Sounds great. I will be looking forward to some pics.
Couple of questions about your build. What reciever are you using? Is the factory polish pistol grip made of hardwood? How did you deal with the bayonet lugs?
I have 2 kits. I hope to do one as a fixed folder and the other as as all polish wood including a pistol grip purchased from one of the board members. I want to preserve the bayonet lugs somehow. I'm thinking of a tac welded cap used as a 'permanent' attachment or running a bead within the channel area.
Good luck with your build.

Saw a completed one at the KC show yesterday. Built on a Sar-1 receiver complete with functioning folder! Try MIR on the board here. He might still have access to brand new in wrap Polish Akm sets that are beautiful.

I'm hooked up on Polish furniture already :D Now, if I ran across some nice Polish handguards I may have to consider them. Otherwise I'm set. I purchased a Polish buttstock and 2 polish hardwood pistol grips form Blazeone1 of this board. The buttstock looks perfect and the pistol grips are outstanding. I never even seen a wooden polish pistol grip before I purchased these.

I have not figured out exactly what I am gonna do with the bayo lugs.
I am gonna have to do something.
On all the builds they will have HESSE receivers.
I got the from joeken when they were $40 each when you buy 5 or more(I got 6).
I am tossing around a couple ideas on the bayo lug.
I wonder if I can put a weld on the bottom of the lug.
Basically leaving the sides untouched but making a speed bump on the bottom.
I need to get a bayonet to see how it attachés.
I talked to the builder and he says either this weekend or the next they will be done. So I am still looking at about 2 weeks before I get them in my hands.
I will take PICS ASAP.
It will take me all of 10 Min's to assemble one when it gets back.
Keep in mind the pics might not be of a legal rifle, but the rifle will be legal well before I could possibly get a visit.

I can wait for the legal pics :D no hurry here. I never thought of the 'bottom bump' idea. Keep us posted.

That is a great idea. I don't know if it would be good enough to render the bayo lug a "non-bayo lug" to the feds satisfaction, but it would effectively preclude the installation of a bayonet. A bayo lug so modified would not even allow the bayonet to slip on, unlike a lug with the "ears" shaved off. This would also be VERY easily reversible, should AWB '94 pass into the sunset...

It will be another couple weeks before my kits get shipped back to me.
I talked to Jayson(the builder) and he forgot about me.
But it is OK.
I will post pics of the finished weapons.
I will now have 3 polish weapons.
My bud just sold me his barrelled action for $265.00
This is what he has in it.
They are all HESSE receivers with a standard stock.
One will sport BLOND hungarian wood.
One will sport Polish laminated handguards, Romanion grip, and a laminated east german buttstock.
The last one is my baby.
It will sport All polish wood with a bake-lite polish grip.
As of right now I will park all of them.
I am thinking of getting one gun koted.

What would be the 'correct' finish for a Polish AK, paint? My SSR-85C is parked but I hope to get it painted or some finish which resembles paint to match the Soviet finish.
What countries, if any, parkerized their AK's?

Well, all of the current Polish kits that I have seen have been blued.
I was under the impression that the Poles parked and painted their AK's as per Soviet milspec(?) I have seen pics of Polish AK's that are P/P so I guess it could be whatever you want.
As for which countries parked, I have seen E German stuff that was brand new unissued that was parked only, BUT I have also seen the same stuff blued and P/P. So, I guess that it doesn't really matter.
Personally, I like the look of an AKM with nice black paint and laminated stocks.

I like the parked and painted method if you can't blue it.
I have a FAL, a makarov, and now my chinese underfolder that is parked and painted.
It is the $hit. I have a guy that does it local for me now.
I Sent my makarov off to Mac's Shootin Iron and he did it for $130.
This includes doing 5 mags as well and return shipping.
My local guy, DOUGJONES, charged me $100 to do my FAL, but it was already PARKED and worked me a killer deal on the underfolder.
I will post pics next weekend on the underfolder. I will have Z_recto take them since he does a better job then me.
You will like it, Polish laminated handguards and a polish pistol grip.

He, he, wait till you try and drop your bolt carrier into your finished product.
I dont see any mid-point releifs cut into the tops of your rails to clear the bolt.

What did you start out with as a blank for your pmkms reciever. I was trying to figure out who sells the best reciever blank for the Polish PMKMS parts kit. I dont want to drill holes then have to start over. Do you have prints that are specific to the pmkms? anyone. is the bent metakl from http://www.sgtfreedom.com/bent-metal/index.html any good" what is the best blant to start from !!. Just a newbie question.
thanks

Yes, I started with a BentMetal blank. and it is definitely the way to go, for a 80% receiver.
You can get them here.
http://www.bent-metal.com/
You have to drill your own holes.
Nobody offers a receiver drilled for the PMKMS folder trunnion.
I'm just waiting for the rivets to show up so I can finish it.

Silver Dollar,
Your project is looking great. I wish I had the time, patients, and know-how to build an AK myself. My hat is off to you. I have been enjoying the process and I'm looking forward to some completed pics!
Have you decided on a finish to use?

Ok, if you say so. All I see is the releif for the front trunion and the rear releif cuts. Still dont see anything in between. From what I see in the pics you will have no problem droping in your bolt carrier.....as long as you dont attach the bolt.
Just trying to help.

Do you need a US pistol grip to keep with your parts count? The black plastic grip looks good, but I think the bakelite may look better (IMO).

Mike,
I don't know if you saw these on the other thread.
Here are a few that DrugRunR and I had done.
All that is left is to park them. That will be done in a couple of weeks.
The one in the middle is mine the other two are DrugRunR's.

mbakercad,
Here's what I have so far in US parts. I just went along with what Global said that I needed.
piston
slant brake
trigger group
pistol grip
OOW receiver
I put the bakelite pistol grip on and really didn't want to take it off. I think the black grips look aweful.
Z-recto,
Where did you get the laminated stock and rear trunnions?

Please consult others, but I think your safe with the bakelite. I believe you need 5 US parts for a stamped gun, 6 if you use a muzzle attachment.
1 Piston
1 Slant brake
1 Reciever
3 Trigger group
Your golden! Slap that bakelite back on and hurry! :D
Anyone else, is he okay to use the Polish grip??

I can answer that one.
The rear trunions came from Global trades.
When we ordered they had them in stock.
They were ordered the same time as the kits where ordered.
Now the laminated stocks.
I am not sure on Z_recto's (the middle one) but the one on the bottom is wearing the Handguards and pistol grip that came with the kit and the buttstock was purchased from BLAZEONE.
I can't remember what we paid for it.
If you are looking for laminated buttstocks you can also get a EAST GERMAN laminated one. They are pretty close. The only difference is the color of the glue used. The EG one is not as dark.
The reason I am not sure on Z_recto's is because he has some many stocks.. just like some women have 30 pairs of shoes in their closet, Z has that many stocks.
I think it is a Polish but, Polish PG, Polish lower HG, and a EG upper HG. Z will chime in and let me know how correct I am ....

I have one more polish one, but I took it home prior to Z taking pictures.
It is wearing Hungarian Blonde wood and a US laminated PG(a Z special)
Now, for the US parts
3 parts-Trigger group
1 part - Reciever
1 part - Muzzle device
1 part - Gas Piston.
I just LOVE the Polish furniture.
I would NEVER replace with US made. Even Z's specials.
He makes some GREAT US made Laminated. He made a Russian style AK74 buttstock. I could not tell it from the real one.

I purchased a laminated stock from K-Var. It is very nice but too dark for my taste.
As for the US parts, I guess I can use the bakelite grip, since i have all the US parts that you have.
