I have been thinking about getting a 5.45x39 AK and I have a few Questions About Cleaning one using the original cleaning kit/rod found on the SAR-2. How do you clean one that has a muzzle break permanently attached using the original cleaning kit/rod ?? Does "Bore-Snake" make a version for the 5.45mm, or will a 22 cal "Bore-Snake" work?? Also, any info/range reports on the Robarms VEPR-IIK in 5.45x39?? Fortier's article looked good. Would it be worth the extra coin over the SAR-2?? Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Bill.
I have a Vepr in 5.45 x 39 and love it! Never had any problems. I use a .22 caliber Bore Snake for cleaning. As for would it be worth the extra coin? The SAR will do everything the Vepr will do. It is just that the Vepr does it with a little more class. The Vepr's fit and finish is alot better, the trigger pull and action are smoother, the stock fits the North American shooting style better. The only drawback is that the Vepr is heavier, some may say this is not a bad thing. Either one would be fun to shoot!
