View Full Version : Why did the 213 get a different breech face?

I got a 213 slide from Shotgun News for $20 and tried to put it on a TU-90 that I had really butchered with modifications.

The 213 was a 9mm only and has a short magazine and spacer that swaps out fast enough. The ejection port is smaller and I can flair it. The ejector shoulder built in the hammer group housing is farther forward and I can move it back. I have 9mm and 7.62x25mm barrels.

But the protrusion on the bottom of the breech face runs into the hammer group. The 213 hammer group housing has a relief cut for this.

I cuold either cut the protursion off the slide or put a relief cut in the hammer group.

In experimenting with very heavy recoil springs in other pistols I have had trouble getting the next cartridge picked up and had to go to double mag springs. Maybe this was the problem with 9mm?

I put a gun together with a TU-90 slide and hammer group and a 213 frame and magazine. It should exibit all the problems that made that Chieese engineer dovetail a protrusion onto the slide and relief cut for it inthe hammer goup. I can't get it to have problems just feeding ammo. I am going to have to shoot it.

Thomas Magnum,
I love your posts!
I would have never figured out why the Chineese made the 213 changes without your help!

Dufrain,
I am not touching, buying, or standing in the same room with a Mak until they catch Wales' murderer. I live a few minutes from Seattle.

As soon as they solve the case, I would like to buy a Mak:)

I think that the Polish Tokarevs from SOG are a great deal.
I am very happy with Chineese 9mm barrels fit in the Polish Toks. For ~$40 these really add versatility to a Tokarev.

In 9mm I have been shooting 158 gr, 12 gr Power PIstol
In 9mm barrels reamed to 9x23mm I have been shooting 158 gr 16 gr Power pistol.
Alliant's max charge for 357 mag 158 gr is 8 gr Power Pistol.
This means that I have been making my Polish and Chineese Tokarevs kick like a mule.

On the 7.62x25mm front, I have been shooting 10 gr Power Pistol with 110 gr Hornady FMJ .308" bullets. This load will make the primer fall out if I use Starline brass, but it holds together with S&B. After 5 years of experimenting , this is the most powerful load for this caliber I have shot.

Don't even think of using my load data. Getting that much powder to fit in the case is tricky and one thing that can go wrong is the bullet may pinch, causing a pressure spike. 8.5 gr of Power Pistol and 158 gr would likely be big trouble for your 9mm, becuse the bullet will pinch and the the bullet is too big for the throat. I have been pre compressing powder, resizing loaded ammo, and throating chambers to get around these problems.

All of these rounds had 40 gr IMR4895 and 100 gr bullet in a Turk Mauser that I rebarreled to .243. The brass is .308 LC with thick necks that pinched the bullet differently. Notice how much trouble pinched bullets can make.

did that hurt your turk mauser any.dont worry about me reloading ,i dont have any reloading equipment.I would like to see later when you get a mak to see if it would work with the 9mm par.would you just have to extend the length of the chamber if it would take the extra power of the longer shell.

I know enough to know that if one follows the load books, one will never attain the power of Wolf 9x18mm ammo.

Clark,
Who is Wales' and what about his murder?

Happened in the Northwest, Seattle IIRC, Wales was a DA or Jr DA that was murdered by an unknown assailant who used a Makarov with a replacement barrel made by FAC. Several boards have threads about the Acronym Agency contacting Mak owners who have replaced their barrels with once from FAC.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2001128276_wales17.html

I saw him in pubilc debate on handgun violence.
He screached with a nasal sneer, bent over, and made a face every time he said the name "NRA".

He was a federal prossecutor, so the murder is a federal case.
There are three profiles of the killer:
1) Some one he prosecuted
2) A pro gun person
3) An anti gun suicide co conspiritor

Credance can be given to the last profile, as his wife had just llleft him to be a lesbian [typical for Seattle] and his anti gun organization, Cease Fire, was going nowhere.
