Today was the first day at the range with my new VEPR II .223. I put 150 rounds through it. I had a blast. I was shooting targets at 100 yds w/open sights. The rifle seemed to be firing a little low, but a quick adjustment had me placing shots in the 8,9 & 10 rings consistently (there was a 6-7 mph cross breeze).

This is my first rifle above .22lr, so getting used to the report took a little getting used to.

One question for those with the VEPR rifles:

I noticed that the ejected cases had a horizontal "tool mark" or indentation half way down the case. The mark was about a centimeter in length, and there was a slight scratch the length of the case which bisected this mark. After tearing down the rifle for cleaning, I found some small brass shavings in the chamber.

Is this anything to worry about?

Thanks for your replies.

The dented cases and brass shavings are normal for any AK type varient. It is caused by the ejected cases hitting the ejection port. The brass shavings are usually from the oversize extractor shaving off a little brass from the case head on extraction.

Thanks Mack,

I figured that was probably the case, but I wanted to be sure. I appreciate your reply.
